Aerospace Machinist

Overview The Aerospace Machinist position supports the United States Air Force Test Operations and Sustainment efforts at Arnold AFB in Tullahoma, TN. The role involves operating, maintaining, and supporting test facilities and equipment within a highly technical engineering test environment. Open to internal and external candidates. Work schedule is flexible; shifts are determined by operational priority. Starting Hourly Rate: $38.44 - $42.71 Job Summary Under general supervision, perform technical, mechanical, electrical, and manual work in testing, operating, assembly, and shop areas of an engineering test facility. Supplementary Functions Participate in functional specific safety training. Work effectively in a team atmosphere and maintain professional behavior that enhances productivity. Adhere to proper grooming, dress, and safety standards. Job Duties Prepare test facility equipment and test articles for operations. Install test articles and check installations. Troubleshoot equipment, test articles, and installations when malfunctions occur. Operate plant and test equipment during tests. Assist in test operations and run test articles such as engine and rocket controls. Remove test articles after tests. Install and maintain facility systems. Accomplish maintenance and servicing work to keep test facility equipment operational. Use a wide variety of hand and machine tools, powered equipment, measuring, and testing equipment. Instruct less experienced lower‑lever grade craftsmen. Wear company‑issued Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) as directed. Perform other duties as required. Basic Qualifications High School Diploma or equivalent. Four years of machinist experience in a working section of an aeronautical test facility; progress experience as an outside machinist, millwright, aircraft mechanic, or heavy equipment mechanic may substitute. Skillfully operate hand and machine tools associated with the trade. Read and work from blueprints, diagrams, and sketches. Valid State Driver's License. Proficient reading, writing, and speaking English. U.S. citizenship required. Ability to obtain and maintain security clearance and the AEDC local area network. Preferred Qualifications Basic and/or advanced rigging training. Active Secret clearance.
