Position Summary Mecklenburg County Park and Recreation is looking for a Sr Stadium and Venue Operations Manager to oversee the management and operation of the American Legion Memorial Stadium and Grady Cole Civic Center. Responsibilities include development and execution of a maintenance program, equipment management, staff supervision, contract management, site inspections for safety and county standards, fiscal management, event contracts management, and safety training oversight related to activities in the facilities. The role serves as the lead for all event day logistics and operations. The ideal candidate has direct experience with large-scale special event management and knowledge of facility operations. This position requires working nights, weekends, and holidays based on the events schedule. Events typically occur on Friday and Saturday evenings with weekdays dedicated to maintenance and preparation. Facility Information American Legion Memorial Stadium and Grady Cole Center are located near uptown Charlotte and adjacent to Central Piedmont Community College. The facility includes a renovated 9,300-seat stadium and an attached 2,000-seat civic center. It hosts a variety of festivals, concerts, and professional and collegiate sports year-round, including tournaments such as the Men’s & Women’s ACC Lacrosse Championships. It is home to three professional sports teams—Charlotte Independence (Men’s Soccer), Anthem RC (Men’s Rugby), and Carolina Ascent FC (Women’s Soccer). Qualifications Preferred Qualifications Synthetic turf maintenance experience Experience in arena/stadium operations and events management Knowledge of athletic field painting, including grid layout Daktronics or similar digital scoreboard experience Essential Functions Manage program and customer service staff, programs and maintenance Establish and maintain partnerships with agencies, neighborhood groups and user groups for developing an effective recreation plan for the community Manage all contracts with agencies, vendors and instructors Direct responsibility for fiscal management, budget planning, implementation, execution and monitoring achievement of defined facility revenue and expense goals Monitor facility revenue through daily admissions, facility passes, fitness, wellness, recreation programs, and facility rentals Manage and monitor vendor, agency and individual contracts Investigate and take action on requests, suggestions or complaints concerning recreation services Provide leadership by introducing new programs, equipment and facilities to staff members and the community Purchase equipment and supplies as needed Responsible for inventory control of equipment and materials allocated to programs Minimum Qualifications Experience: Minimum of six (6) years of experience in recreation programming; One (1) year of supervisory experience or completion of an approved supervisory training program Education: Bachelor’s Degree in Recreation Administration, Park and Recreation or related field Combination of relevant education and relevant experience accepted?: Yes Licenses/Certifications: Requires a valid North Carolina or South Carolina Driver’s License and County Driving Privileges Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities Principles, practices, and techniques of public recreation programs and the needs of all levels and age groups Facilities and equipment required in both indoor and outdoor recreation activities Skills Leadership in various recreational activities, including supervisory skills Preparing concise and accurate reports Developing work standards, defining work methods, scheduling projects and resources Managing multiple tasks concurrently Abilities Adaptability: Maintaining effectiveness when experiencing major changes in work responsibilities or environment Applied Learning: Assimilating and applying new job-related information in a timely manner Building Trust Communication: Clearly conveying information to individuals or groups Customer Focus Developing Others Initiating Action Planning and Organizing Safety Awareness Decision Making Delegating Responsibility Facilitate Change Leadership Disposition Managing Conflict Compensation And Benefits Mecklenburg County offers a competitive salary and a generous benefits package, including medical, dental, vision, life, disability coverage, flexible spending accounts, health savings account options, paid holidays, vacation and sick leave, access to fitness facilities, tuition reimbursement, retirement plan with employer match, and more.
