Supervisor, Medical Technologist (UHealth Labs Transition)

Job Summary The UHealth Laboratories Department at the University of Miami has an exciting opportunity for a Supervisor, Medical Technologists. The Supervisor, Medical Technologists provides leadership and supervision for clinical laboratory procedures, quality assurance, and instrument maintenance. Core Job Functions Supervises, orients, trains, evaluates, and monitors on‑job performance of staff responsible for performing microbiological, molecular biological and immunological tests on body specimens to provide data for use in treatment and diagnosis of disease. Verifies identification of specimen with physician’s orders. Prepares specimen for testing and handles all specimens in a safe and careful manner. Supervises all research and prepares all pertinent patient data and refers to pathologists for evaluation and sign‑out. Assists in monitoring staff productivity and quality of work through proactive reviews of attendance and scheduling accuracy. Initiates performance management processes that address on‑going performance issues. Recognizes test inconsistencies and takes appropriate corrective action and provides supervision to laboratory subordinates in resolution of similar problems. Runs quality‑control tests according to procedure and maintains appropriate data recording. Seeks help from the section head and documents actions taken. Performs and reviews quality controls in testing and decides whether results are within acceptable ranges. Advises technologists and other healthcare providers on proper methods of collection of specimens. Establishes and continuously assesses the effectiveness of the internal controls within the unit and compliance with University policies and procedures. Ensures employees are trained on controls within the function and on University policy and procedures. Core Qualifications Education: Bachelor’s degree in relevant field required Experience: Minimum 3 years of relevant experience required Certification and Licensing: Valid State of Florida Medical Technologist license required Knowledge, Skills & Abilities Performance Management: Ability to set performance goals, provide feedback, conduct evaluations, and effectively delegate tasks. Training & Development: Providing employee training and motivation to enhance skills. Team Leadership: Ability to create and maintain a cohesive and productive team environment, build positive working relationships and work collaboratively with others. Technical Proficiency: Skilled in using office software, technology, and relevant computer applications. Communication: Strong verbal and written communication skills to convey ideas clearly and persuasively.
