OCCUPATIONAL DEFINITION: #131 - LABORER I

Compliance with the Company's Safety Rules, Standard Operating Procedures, Working Rules, and its Labor Agreements is assumed and required regardless of the individual employee's occupation. Minimum education requirement High School Graduate or GED equivalent.) Three to five years of work experience is preferred.

The primary responsibilities of the Laborer are to maintain the plant in a clean, presentable manner. The Laborer will be exposed to dust, loud noise, heat and cold, high elevations and all weather conditions. Normal operation of mobile equipment may result in jarring and vibrating exposure.

This occupation requires the use of shovels, brooms, and/or power cleaning equipment to keep floor areas, walkways, structural steel, and materials handling devices free of debris. The Laborer cleans motors, dust collectors, hoppers, piping and similar equipment used in the Kiln and Milling Departments, as well as ramps, idlers, chutes, allied equipment in the Rock and Shale Plants, conveyor gallery and railroad hopper cars as directed.

The Laborer must be able to work from scaffolds and ladders as required to reach areas to be cleaned, work inside rotary kilns, grinding mills and dust collectors. A Laborer must learn how to operate efficiently and safely: fork lift trucks, vacuum truck, bobcat type loaders, jackhammers, chipping hammers, and other equipment.

The individual is capable of following oral and/or written instructions who accomplishes duties in a safe, systematic manner. Must comply with all safety policies and regulations.

A Laborer reports any malfunction of equipment or other condition which tend to slow or stop production or can affect the equipment mechanically or electrically to his Supervisor.

The Laborer, who may also be required to perform such other duties as authorized persons may direct, continues in this classification by maintaining a high standard of performance.
