Part-Time Payroll Specialist Job Description Position Title: Part-Time Payroll Specialist Hours: ~2025 hours bi-weekly (flexible depending on business needs) Location: Detroit, MI Onsite Department: Accounting / Finance Position Summary The Part-Time Payroll Specialist supports the accurate and timely processing of payroll for employees across the organization. This role is responsible for maintaining payroll records, ensuring compliance with federal and state regulations, and assisting with payroll-related inquiries. The ideal candidate is detail?oriented, organized, and experienced with payroll systems and wage/labor laws. Key Responsibilities Process biweekly/weekly payroll for hourly and salaried employees. Review and verify timesheets, wage calculations, and timekeeping records. Enter payroll changes, including new hires, terminations, pay rate adjustments, and deductions. Maintain accurate employee payroll files and ensure confidentiality of sensitive information. Respond to employee questions regarding pay, taxes, and timekeeping. Reconcile payroll discrepancies and resolve issues in a timely manner. Prepare and submit payroll reports to Finance/HR leadership. Ensure compliance with federal, state, and local payroll laws and company policies. Support year?end processes such as W?2 preparation and audit requests. Collaborate with HR and Finance teams on payroll?related projects as needed. Qualifications Required: 2+ years of payroll experience (part-time or full-time). Knowledge of payroll regulations (FLSA, tax withholding, garnishments, etc.). Experience with payroll software such as ADP, Paycom, Paychex, UKG, or similar. Strong attention to detail and accuracy. High confidentiality, professionalism, and integrity. Proficiency in Microsoft Excel and basic financial reporting. Preferred: Experience processing multi-state payroll. Exposure to HRIS systems. Associates degree or payroll-related certification (e.g., CPP, FPC).
