Under the supervision of the School Administrator, the Behavior Technician works as a member of a multidisciplinary team with the BCBA, teachers, counselors, school psychologists, school social workers, and other appropriate personnel to support positive student behavior and student success. The Behavior Technician implements strategies designed to decrease maladaptive behaviors and increase students' social, communication, behavioral, and adaptive skills.
The position provides behavioral and academic support to students in grades Kindergarten through age 22. REPORTS TO
To work collaboratively with school-based teams to develop, implement, and support behavioral interventions that promote student success, increase positive behaviors, improve social-emotional functioning, and support academic engagement. QUALIFICATIONS Required

To work collaboratively with school-based teams to develop, implement, and support behavioral interventions that promote student success, increase positive behaviors, improve social-emotional functioning, and support academic engagement. QUALIFICATIONS Required
- Experience working with students with significant social, emotional, and behavioral needs.
- Current PMT (Physical and Psychological Management Training) certification required; training may be provided if needed.
- Ability to implement PMT strategies and crisis intervention approaches with students in grades Kindergarten through age 22.
- Ability to provide academic support to students.
- Strong communication, interpersonal, and collaboration skills.
- Demonstrated ability to maintain professionalism and confidentiality.
- Minimum of two (2) years of completed coursework in psychology, education, social work, behavioral science, child/adolescent development, human development, or a related field.
- Experience working in educational settings serving students with intensive behavioral needs.
- Work as a collaborative team member with the BCBA, teachers, counselors, school psychologists, school social workers, administrators, and other school personnel to support student success.
- Implement strategies designed to decrease maladaptive behaviors and increase social, communication, behavioral, and adaptive skills.
- Model, prompt, and reinforce safe and socially appropriate replacement behaviors under the direction of the BCBA, special education teachers, and administrators.
- Implement intensive de-escalation techniques, behavior intervention strategies, and behavioral supports as directed by the BCBA, special education teachers, and administrators.
- Implement individual student Behavior Intervention Plans (BIPs) and other behavioral supports.
- Observe and monitor student behavior in accordance with recommended practices and procedures.
- Collect, maintain, and record accurate behavioral data and documentation.
- Effectively and calmly respond to emotionally charged situations while maintaining student and staff safety.
- Participate in ongoing training and professional development with the BCBA and multidisciplinary team to address the significant needs of students.
- Seek consultation and collaborate with the BCBA, special education teachers, related service providers, and administrators regarding student support needs.
- Support students under the direction of teachers and administrators in academic subjects including mathematics, English Language Arts, social studies, and science.
- Communicate effectively both orally and in writing with staff, families, and stakeholders.
- Support students during transportation assignments, including bus runs, when assigned.
- Maintain regular and punctual attendance.
- Perform other related duties as assigned.
- Assist with student arrival, dismissal, transitions, and school activities.
- Provide support during lunch, recess, field trips, community-based instruction, and vocational activities as assigned.
- Assist students with personal care/needs.
- Support classroom and school-wide behavioral initiatives.
- Assist with crisis response and safety planning as directed by administration.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS
- Ability to lift and/or move up to 50 pounds.
- Ability to occasionally lift and/or move more than 50 pounds with assistance and/or assistive equipment.
- Ability to safely implement approved crisis prevention and intervention techniques.
- Ability to physically respond to behavioral situations requiring intervention in accordance with PMT training.
- Ability to assist students with mobility, positioning, transfers, and activities of daily living as required.
- Ability to move throughout school buildings and grounds and respond promptly to student needs.
- Non-Union Position
- Hourly rate is based upon annual budget allocations.
