Job Description
The City of Battle Creek and Full Blast Water Park are looking for Lifeguards! Lifeguards are responsible for surveying a body of water and conducting rescues to help weak or injured swimmers get to safety. Their duties include speaking with swimmers to enforce swimming rules keeping track of each swimmer in the water and administering first aid to injured swimmers. Lifeguards are under the direct supervision of the Recreation Manager.
Essential Functions
- Recognize and respond effectively in emergency situations by activating the Emergency Action Plan (EAP).
- Opening and closing the pool each day according to scheduled hours
- Closely monitoring activities related to the pool area, identifying any safety issues throughout shift
- Directing swimmers out of water in dangerous conditions
- Communicate daily with the Director as to daily plans, special needs, absences from the program, discipline of children, difficulties with other counselors and any other concerns.
Minimum Qualifications
- Must be at least 15 years of age.
- Will need to be able to obtain First Aid and Infant, Child and Adult CPR (provided).
- Experience working with children (Preferred).
Special Requirements
- Candidates who are selected for appointment may be required to be fingerprinted.
Physical Requirements/Working Conditions
A lifeguard's physical requirements typically include strong swimming ability, endurance to sit and scan the water for extended periods, the ability to quickly react and perform rescues in water, lift and carry weight, and often require good vision and hearing to monitor a large area; working conditions usually involve exposure to sun, heat, water, while being alert and attentive to potential dangers in the water. Must be able to swim.
