QUALIFICATIONS :

Candidates must hold a Master’s Degree in Education and hold a valid New York State certification in a World Language 7-12 in Spanish. Ideal Candidates must have completed three years or more of approved and appropriate teaching of Bilingual, Dual Language, and/or English Language Learners’ programs.

EXPERIENCE :

In evaluating each candidate’s qualifications, consideration will be given to the candidate’s coursework and experiences in the areas of scientifically based research, assessment, and professional development in the area of second language acquisition, cultural and linguistically responsive teaching, early literacy skills for grades 7 – 12.

DUTIES :

Responsibilities include, but are not limited to: Instructing monolingual students in the Four Hallmarks of Literacy - listening, speaking, reading, and writing in a language other than English. Focus instruction on grammar, vocabulary, and the structure of a language acquisition as well as exposing scholars to the culture and history of the places where the language is spoken. Crafting lessons that are based on the New York State Learning Standards for World Language. Assess students using project-based assessments, online end of unit exams and real time speaking paired assessments. Communicates with parents and school counselors on student progress. Preparation and administration of Checkpoint A, B, & C World Language Assessment exams. Collaborating with classroom co teachers, and school building administrators regarding the implementation of research based instructional strategies that are direct, explicit, systematic, and designed to meet the unique needs of ALL students. Prospective Candidate must have knowledge of scheduling and 4 +1 Graduation pathways as they pertain to World Language graduation requirements 100.2 Evaluates academic and social growth of students. Establishes and maintains standards of student behavior needed to provide a productive and safe classroom environment. Planning and Providing Professional Development for teachers and supporting teachers in the development and implementation of action plans based on student data. Communicates with parents and pertinent school personnel on student progress. Modeling World Language strategies to colleagues. Attending NYSED OBEWL, BOCES and District-led Professional Development for World Language Teachers. Participates in faculty committees and the sponsorship of student activities. Develop and revise District World Language Curriculum Maps using Rubicon Atlas.

APPOINTMENT :

Appointment will be made by the Board of Education upon the recommendation of the School Principal and Assistant Superintendent of Human Resources following assessment of training, experience, certifications, credentials and evaluation of service. Personal interviews, a modeled lesson and a writing sample shall be scheduled. SALARY: Teachers salary schedule.
