Code Compliance Officer

General Description JOIN OUR TEAM AS A CODE COMPLIANCE OFFICER The role of Code Compliance Officer is technical and administrative work in the investigation, inspection, and evaluation of County codes pertaining to environmental and land development and use activities. Main duties for this role include determining compliance with codes for the allowed land uses within residential, professional, commercial, and industrial zones; locates and investigates complaints and enforces codes pertaining to land use and environmental violations. The ideal candidate for Code Compliance Officer will possess basic knowledge in code enforcement, land use permitting, general law enforcement, corrections, and/or general military law investigations. General Description JOIN OUR TEAM AS A CODE COMPLIANCE OFFICER The role of Code Compliance Officer is technical and administrative work in the investigation, inspection, and evaluation of County codes pertaining to environmental and land development and use activities. Main duties for this role include determining compliance with codes for the allowed land uses within residential, professional, commercial, and industrial zones; locates and investigates complaints and enforces codes pertaining to land use and environmental violations. The ideal candidate for Code Compliance Officer will possess basic knowledge in code enforcement, land use permitting, general law enforcement, corrections, and/or general military law investigations. Essential Job Functions Investigates and enforces Pasco County Land Development Codes, specific sections of the Codified Ordinances, and Minimum Housing Standards. Determines compliance with codes for the allowed land uses within residential, professional, commercial, and industrial zones. Inspects and monitors all sand mines and construction and demolition debris disposal facilities. Locates and investigates complaints and enforces codes pertaining to land use and environmental violations. Investigates violations of the Pasco County codes and ordinances. Issues notices of violations or warnings and citations for violations of these codes. Maintains accurate documentation and case files on all investigations, inspections, and other job related activities including photographs. Reviews applications, performs field inspections, and issues permits as required. Reports in writing all complaints of violations using appropriate report forms, collects evidence as required, and resolves complaints and violations. Prepares and presents information to courts, commissions and boards. Disseminates information regarding land use principles and practices and explains standards and regulations to applicants, public agencies, and departments. Testifies in County Court. Occasionally requires work involving lifting, moving, pushing and pulling of heavy objects. Requires work involving stooping, bending, standing for extended periods of time, walking on uneven surfaces for long distances, occasionally at a fast pace. Ability to lift and/or move up to 30 pounds and also push or pull heavy objects. Performs related work as required. Knowledge, Skills And Abilities Knowledge of land development and use, and environmental codes. Knowledge of plans interpretation, specifications, codes, and regulations pertaining to land development use and the environment. Ability to effectively communicate with complainants, applicants, violators, public bodies, and the general public. Ability to make use of a personal computer through diverse software applications. Ability to work independently. Ability to present facts and express ideas clearly and concisely, orally and in writing. Ability to prepare detailed written reports. Ability to document, collect evidence and present findings in a court of law. Minimum Requirements PHYSICAL SKILLS/WORKING CONDITIONS: Ability to lift and/or move up to 30 pounds and also push or pull heavy objects. May use a handling device (dolly, cart, etc.) or work with another team member to life and/or more excessively heavy objects. Ability to communicate effectively using verbal, written and visual communication. Requires stooping, bending, standing for extended periods of time, walking on uneven surfaces for long distances, occasionally at a fast pace. Ability to work outdoors in adverse weather conditions. Ability to enter and exit vehicle frequently. Must be able to work a rotating schedule that includes evenings and weekends. EDUCATION, TRAINING AND EXPERIENCE: Graduation from an accredited college or university with an Associate degree in criminal justice OR graduation from high school or possession of an acceptable equivalency diploma and two (2) years' experience in code enforcement, land use permitting, general law enforcement, corrections and/or general military law investigations. LICENSES, CERTIFICATIONS OR REGISTRATIONS: Must possess a valid Florida driver's license. Must have the ability to obtain Florida Association of Code Enforcement (F.A.C.E.) Level I certification or equivalent.
