Job Title: Environmental Aide / Patient Transport Aide

Job Description

This role focuses on safely transporting patients throughout a hospital setting while providing courteous, professional support to patients, visitors, and healthcare staff. You will use mobile technology to receive assignments, move patients to and from various departments, and help ensure timely, efficient patient flow across the facility.

Responsibilities

• Transport patients safely and efficiently throughout the hospital, including to and from appointments, departments, testing areas, and other designated locations.
• Assist with delivering and moving individuals throughout the facility while maintaining a calm, reassuring presence.
• Use a Rover or mobile device to receive, manage, and update transportation assignments in real time.
• Follow all department procedures, patient-safety protocols, and hospital guidelines to ensure a secure environment for patients and staff.
• Maintain professional, respectful, and courteous interactions with patients, visitors, and healthcare staff at all times.
• Meet performance expectations by completing approximately 20–30 patient transports per shift, with a target time of about 18 minutes per transport.
• Use the department’s tracking system to document and monitor transportation activity accurately.
• Remain productive and ready for assignments during periods of downtime between transports.
• Demonstrate reliable attendance, punctuality, and consistent adherence to scheduled shifts, including rotating weekends.
• Participate in required Monday–Friday training during the initial training period and apply learned procedures in daily work.

Essential Skills

• Previous experience in healthcare, patient transport, hospital support, customer service, or a similar role is preferred.
• Strong customer service mindset with the ability to provide a positive experience for patients and visitors.
• Effective verbal communication skills and a respectful, professional demeanor.
• Comfort interacting with patients, visitors, and healthcare staff in a hospital environment.
• Basic computer skills and the ability to learn and use mobile technology such as Rover or similar devices.
• Reliable attendance, punctuality, and the ability to adhere to rotating schedules, including weekends.
• Ability to stay focused and productive during periods of downtime between assignments.
• Comfort working in a fast-paced environment with performance metrics such as transport volume and completion times.
• Willingness and ability to work a rotating weekend schedule.
• Capability to meet the physical demands of frequent patient transport within a hospital setting.

Additional Skills & Qualifications

• Experience as a patient transporter, hospital transporter, patient transport aide, patient transport specialist, mobility assistant, or hospital escort.
• Customer service in a high-contact environment.
• CPR certification.
• Familiarity with hospital procedures and patient-safety guidelines.
• Comfort using department-specific tracking systems and mobile devices for task management.
• Ability to adapt to rotating schedules and bid-based shift assignments.
• Willingness to take on additional hours or overtime when available.

Work Environment

This position is based in a hospital setting as part of a patient transport team of approximately 40 employees. The role is full-time on the day shift, with primary shift options of 3:00 PM–11:30 PM (two positions) and 12:00 PM–8:30 PM (one position). Employees work on a rotating weekend schedule, typically every other weekend, and schedules follow a rotating bid process that may include both weekdays and weekends. Initial training takes place Monday through Friday and is required before moving into regular shift assignments. You will use a Rover or similar mobile device and the department’s tracking system to receive and document assignments. The environment is fast-paced, with clear productivity expectations, but may include periods of downtime between transports, during which you are expected to remain ready for new assignments. The role involves regular movement throughout the hospital, frequent interaction with patients and staff, and adherence to hospital policies and procedures.

This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Milton, MA.

The pay range for this position is $20.00 - $27.00/hr.

Individual compensation offered for this position within this range will depend on many factors, including qualifications, skills, relevant experience, job knowledge, geographic location, internal equity, and other pertinent job-related factors.
