English Instructor (Fall 2026)

Job Summary Full‑time faculty position to teach all levels of English classes at the community college. Full‑time members of the faculty are professional educators who have the primary responsibility of instruction and management of assigned classes. Additional responsibilities include fulfilling the Metropolitan Community College mission, vision, values, strategic plan, Board of Trustees’ charges and educational philosophy, and primary goal of providing a quality education for all students attending the college. Final compensation offer will be determined, based on various factors, such as academic credentials, relevant work and instructional experience. Essential Functions Deliver effective asynchronous instruction - Provide quality asynchronous instruction, which is reflective of current discipline standards and is accurate, relevant, and engaging using college – approved curriculum and resources Assess student learning - Demonstrate reflective practice, including assessment of student learning. This includes ongoing formative assessments, as well as official departmental assessment Manage classes and online, asynchronous learning environments - Foster a positive classroom‑learning environment by presenting information in a way that is inclusive to all learners, including the assurance of section 508 accessibility Promote continual improvement as part of the cycle of teaching and learning Support learning through student engagement by incorporating pedagogical strategies such as active learning, authentic and problem‑based activities, and other successful asynchronous teaching strategies in the online learning environment. Provide student guidance - Help students develop academic habits for college success Pursue professional development by staying current in academic field Actively participate collegially in department, campus, cross‑college, discipline specific, district, and community service activities Perform other duties as assigned to provide high‑quality learning experience for students, including participating in commencement, attending college functions, etc. Qualifications, Knowledge, Skills, Abilities and Physical Requirements Minimum Qualifications: Master’s degree in English OR Master’s degree in a related field with at least 18 GCH in combination of the qualifying fields English Rhetoric and Composition Literature MFA (English) Technical Writing Print Journalism Linguistics

TESOL/TESL

Preferred Qualifications: Two (2) years of asynchronous, online teaching experience at the college level, using interactive teaching techniques. Experience using assessment techniques to promote teaching and learning excellence. Demonstrated experience with current asynchronous and online pedagogical and instructional methods. Demonstrated experience with utilizing a variety of classroom technologies, both inside and outside the classroom. Proficiency in technology for personal productivity (such as Microsoft Office Suite), online teaching tools, and Learning Management Systems (e.g., Canvas). Knowledge, Skills and Abilities: Experience with inclusive curriculum design. Evidence of innovative teaching methods that engage diverse learners. Demonstrated interest in and passion for teaching community college students. Ability to work well with others. Strong oral and written communication skills. Physical Requirements: Positions in this class typically require feeling, grasping, hearing, keyboarding, reaching, repetitive motion, standing, talking, visual acuity, and walking. The work is sedentary work which requires exerting up to 10 pounds of force occasionally and/or negligible amount of force frequently or constantly.
