Speech-Language Pathologist – K–8
Position Overview
Elite School Staffing is seeking a highly qualified and compassionate Speech-Language Pathologist (SLP) to provide speech and language services to K–8 students within the Service Learning District for the 2026–2027 school year. The ideal candidate will be committed to helping students develop effective communication skills that support academic achievement, social-emotional development, and success in the classroom.
The Speech-Language Pathologist will provide comprehensive evaluation, therapy, consultation, and support services to students with speech, language, communication, and related disabilities. This position will work closely with students, families, teachers, special education staff, administrators, and other service providers to ensure that students receive appropriate services aligned with their individual needs and Individualized Education Programs (IEPs).
Key Responsibilities:
Evaluation & Assessment:
- Conduct comprehensive speech and language screenings, evaluations, and assessments to identify communication needs.
- Evaluate students in areas including articulation, receptive and expressive language, fluency, voice, and other communication disorders as appropriate.
- Analyze assessment results and prepare clear, thorough evaluation reports.
- Participate in multidisciplinary evaluations and eligibility determination processes.
- Provide recommendations regarding appropriate speech and language services, accommodations, interventions, and classroom supports.
Therapy & Student Services:
- Provide direct and indirect speech and language services to eligible K–8 students in accordance with IEP requirements.
- Develop and implement individualized therapy plans aligned with student needs and IEP goals.
- Provide individual and small-group therapy using research-based speech and language intervention strategies.
- Address communication needs that may impact academic performance, classroom participation, and social development.
- Monitor student progress and adjust therapy strategies based on ongoing assessment and performance data.
- Support students in general education settings when appropriate through consultative and inclusion-based services.
- Incorporate appropriate technology, communication tools, and assistive communication strategies to support student access and participation.
IEP & Special Education Responsibilities:
- Develop measurable speech and language goals and objectives for students on the assigned caseload.
- Participate in IEP meetings, MET meetings, and other special education planning meetings.
- Provide information regarding student communication needs, progress, and recommended services.
- Ensure speech and language services are delivered in accordance with IEP requirements and applicable special education regulations.
- Maintain accurate documentation regarding evaluations, therapy sessions, progress monitoring, and student services.
- Collaborate with special education teams to support the academic and developmental needs of students with disabilities.
Collaboration & Communication:
- Collaborate with classroom teachers to develop strategies and accommodations that support student communication in the classroom.
- Consult with teachers regarding speech, language, communication, and behavioral strategies.
- Communicate regularly with parents and guardians regarding student progress, needs, and recommendations.
- Work collaboratively with special education teachers, paraprofessionals, school psychologists, social workers, occupational therapists, physical therapists, administrators, and other related service providers.
- Provide guidance and resources to school staff to promote effective communication strategies throughout the school environment.
- Establish positive and professional relationships with students and families.
Compliance & Professional Responsibilities:
- Maintain compliance with Michigan special education requirements, district policies, and applicable state and federal regulations.
- Maintain student confidentiality and comply with FERPA and other applicable privacy requirements.
- Complete required documentation accurately and within established timelines.
- Maintain appropriate records for student services, evaluations, progress reports, and caseload management.
- Participate in professional development and remain current on evidence-based speech and language practices.
- Maintain all required professional licenses and credentials in good standing.
- Perform other related duties as assigned by school administration or the appropriate special education supervisor.
Qualifications:
Education & Licensure:
- Master’s degree in Speech-Language Pathology from an accredited program required.
- Valid Michigan Speech-Language Pathologist license issued by the Michigan Department of Licensing and Regulatory Affairs (LARA) required.
- Must meet all applicable Michigan Department of Education and special education requirements to provide speech and language services in a public school setting.
- Certificate of Clinical Competence (CCC) through the American Speech-Language-Hearing Association (ASHA) preferred.
- Candidates must maintain all required licenses and professional credentials throughout employment.
Experience:
- Previous experience providing speech and language services in an elementary or middle school setting preferred.
- Experience working with students with disabilities and IEPs preferred.
- Experience with K–8 students and multidisciplinary educational teams preferred.
- Experience conducting speech and language evaluations and developing individualized therapy plans preferred.
Skills & Abilities:
- Strong knowledge of speech, language, communication, and child development.
- Excellent oral and written communication skills.
- Strong assessment, documentation, organization, and time-management abilities.
- Ability to manage an assigned caseload effectively.
- Ability to develop positive relationships with students, families, and school staff.
- Strong understanding of special education processes and IEP requirements.
- Ability to work independently while functioning effectively as part of a multidisciplinary team.
- Strong problem-solving and critical-thinking skills.
- Commitment to providing equitable, student-centered services to all learners.
Physical Requirements:
- Ability to sit, stand, walk, bend, and move throughout a K–8 school environment for extended periods.
- Ability to work directly with students in classrooms, therapy spaces, and other school settings.
- Ability to occasionally move instructional materials, therapy supplies, and equipment weighing up to approximately 25 pounds.
- Ability to respond appropriately to student needs and emergency situations.
- Ability to perform essential job functions with or without reasonable accommodation.
Work Environment
The Speech-Language Pathologist will work primarily within a K–8 school environment and may provide services in classrooms, therapy areas, offices, and other educational settings. The position requires regular interaction with students, families, teachers, administrators, and related service providers. The SLP must maintain professionalism, confidentiality, flexibility, and a student-centered approach while supporting students with a wide range of communication and educational needs.
