Sr. Principal Mission Planning Engineer — Northrop Grumman Northrop Grumman is seeking a highly experienced engineer to lead the design and integration of advanced mission planning subsystems for our next‑generation aerospace programs. The role is located in Melbourne, FL and supports a 9/80 schedule (every other Friday off). Relocation assistance is available and the position requires a current Secret clearance. Responsibilities Develop functional architectures, analyze performance, and manage requirements and interfaces for mission planning subsystems. Perform requirements development, analysis, maturation, and implementation, translating customer needs into hardware and software specifications. Conduct performance and functional analysis, risk analysis, and develop mitigation plans. Collaborate with internal engineers, program stakeholders, and external customers. Produce supplier documentation, performance-based specifications, and statements of work. Lead program strategic partners and suppliers in acquisition, qualification, integration, and test support. Review supplier development documents, support technical interchange meetings, and conduct design reviews. Plan and execute informal and formal subsystem testing, troubleshoot hardware, and validate requirements. Maintain high technical rigor, communicate risks and issues to leadership, and foster a collaborative team environment. Basic Qualifications Bachelor’s degree in STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, or Mathematics) with 8 years of related professional/military engineering experience; or Master’s with 6 years; or Ph.D. with 4 years. Experience with system modeling and requirements management tools (e.g., Cameo, DOORS) and tracing requirements. Knowledge of software development/management and software factories. Experience managing suppliers/subcontractors and developing supplier documentation. Ability to evaluate suppliers, conduct technical evaluations, and document results. Current Secret clearance and ability to maintain it within a reasonable time. Preferred Qualifications Proficiency in system engineering design methods, including requirements analysis, flow‑down, and interface control documentation. Strong verbal and written communication skills and experience working in collaborative teams. Direct engagement with internal and external technical and programmatic representatives. Expertise in troubleshooting and problem solving. Rapid assimilation of new concepts and self‑directed work style. Experience with model‑based systems engineering (SysML) using Cameo or similar tools. Familiarity with Atlassian collaboration tools (Jira, Confluence). Experience or certification in cloud and container technologies (e.g., VMWare, AWS, Azure, Docker, Kubernetes). Salary, Benefits & Working Conditions Primary salary range: $122,800 – $184,200. Compensation may include overtime, shift differential, discretionary bonuses, and long‑term incentives for VP or Director level.
