Software Engineer, Billing & Payments

ABOUT THIS POSITIONAs a Software Engineer in the Patient Payments organization at Waystar, you will solve problems that affect real people. We're open to considering both mid-level and senior-level engineers who care deeply about how users interact with their applications and how other engineers will iterate on their code. You should also be passionate about using modern technologies, removing tech debt, and improving processes. Instead of asking “Why is this the way it is?”, you ask “How can I make this better?”The team is responsible for building full stack applications for both health system staff and patients. The team works closely with Product to bring new features to market to best support the needs of enterprise health systems and engage with patients through a Best in KLAS user experience. The web portals utilize modern web technologies to facilitate payment processing, account management and reporting.WHAT YOU'LL DODesign, develop, test, deploy, and maintain robust and scalable software solutions across the full software development lifecycle.Collaborate with product managers, UX designers, and other engineers to understand requirements, define technical specifications, and deliver features that meet business needs.Participate in code reviews, ensuring code quality, maintainability, and adherence to engineering best practices.Troubleshoot, debug, and resolve software defects and production issues in a timely manner.Contribute to the improvement of development processes, tools, and methodologies.Document technical designs, architectural decisions, and operational procedures.Actively learn and apply new technologies and industry trends to enhance our products and services.Mentor junior engineers and contribute to a collaborative team environment.WHAT YOU'LL NEEDBachelor’s Degree in Computer Science or related field preferred (or equivalent experience) 3+ years of professional full stack web development experience  Object-oriented programming (we’re mostly PHP)  Relational databases (we use MySql)  Modern JavaScript frameworks such as Angular, React, or Vue (we use Vue) JavaScript, HTML, CSS, and/or MVC Frameworks  Unit and integration testing methodologies  Distributed system architecture and asynchronous processing using queues (AWS SQS)  Automated production logging, monitoring and alerting Experience using AI-assisted development tools (such as GitHub Copilot, ChatGPT, Cursor, or similar) to improve productivity and software qualityAbility to effectively incorporate AI into the software development lifecycle, including coding, testing, troubleshooting, and documentationAgile Development ABOUT WAYSTARThrough a smart platform and better experience, Waystar helps providers simplify healthcare payments and yield powerful results throughout the complete revenue cycle.Waystar’s healthcare payments platform combines innovative, cloud-based technology, robust data, and unparalleled client support to streamline workflows and improve financials so providers can focus on what matters most: their patients and communities.
