Maintenance Supervisor

The Maintenance Supervisor coordinates the installation, maintenance, and repairs of all company machinery and equipment within the facility, including any maintenance or repairs of the building or property. The Maintenance Supervisor manages the hourly maintenance personnel in a safe, effective and efficient manner in compliance with the company policies, procedures and all legislative requirements.

Flex-N-Gate training requirements include new employee orientation, competent person/due diligence, supervisor H&S awareness, H&S level 1 certification, transportation of dangerous goods, light curtain maintenance procedure, CMS CR1, PCPMTH, confined space entry, CSA Z142.02 Std. for press operation, environmental review of projects, contractor control, monitoring & measuring, hazardous waste storage & disposal, storm water management, air emissions, control of hazardous materials, hazardous waste disposal and waste manifest processing, servicing of stationary refrigeration equipment, maintenance of storm water drains, handling of waste oils & oily material on site, waste water treatment operational instructions, exterior storage, facility standards training, fire watch procedures, first aid/CPR training, accident investigation training, hot work permit, lockout training, crane theory training, lift truck theory, ISO14001 EMS management training, machine guarding, maintenance management system, management leadership training, employee motivation & empowerment, equipment maintenance, equipment procurement, internal audit - layered process audits, pre-start health and safety review, strategic planning, master procedure flow, scissor lift, and workplace inspection training.

Job duties include assessing and prioritizing work requests, following up on work orders, maintaining and reviewing stock inventory, preparing manpower schedule, inspecting facility areas, attending production meetings, researching materials, focusing on error proofing, ergonomic techniques and cost reductions, contacting outside contractors, championing new equipment, being on call 24 hours/day and weekends, preparing overtime equalization sheets, canvasses for overtime, preparing time sheets for payroll, approving vacations and leaves of absence, overseeing schedule rotation, adhering to supervisory expectations, reading and interpreting equipment manuals and work orders, coordinating preventive maintenance, being knowledgeable in the use of hand and power tools, electric meters and material handling equipment, detecting faulty operations, defective material and reporting, complying with safety regulations, maintaining clean and orderly work areas, being involved in all aspects of building maintenance, coordinating and monitoring contractor activities, working with site-wide building maintenance, updating project information, maintaining project files, organizing drawings and preparing drawing packages, supporting department management, project managers and consultants, updating and maintaining information in records systems and department databases, setting priorities for preventative maintenance work orders, maintenance requisitions and scheduled work, maintaining adequate supplies and equipment for the maintenance department, requisiting work to be completed through purchasing, attending meetings as required, meeting with Fire Department, Hydro, etc. as required, completing all necessary reports and records related to the department as required, driving Flex-N-Gate, Ventra vehicles, as required, coordinating the painting and decorating of the interior and exterior surfaces as required, adhering to departmental procedures and systems, organizing minor construction work, maintaining inventory of new equipment, manuals and warranties, operating computerized preventative maintenance program, troubleshooting and maintaining various electrical components, appliances and equipment, scheduling preventative maintenance checks of all electrical alarms, responsible for the install and repair plumbing fixtures, piping, and related equipment, organizing mechanical and preventative maintenance work on equipment, initiating safety concerns and making judgment on the best methods of completing tasks, responsible for snow removal and ice safety, responsible for landscaping and the overall esthetic look of Flex-N-Gate, Ventra property, accountable for short-term planning and keeping appropriate authorities aware of decisions being made, performing all other duties as assigned or needed, and the incumbent is responsible for the awareness, understanding, specific responsibilities and management of the Environmental Management System (EMS) as stated in EMS policy CEVPL.00005.

Requirements include a community college in a related field, five years in a mechanical/electrical capacity as a tradesman or five years related experience, highly motivated and able to work independently, ability to comprehend and communicate detailed instructions orally and in writing, ability to multi-task and establish priorities, ability to maintain organization of maintenance schedule and files in a changing environment, ability to independently seek out downtime reduction activities and projects, exhibit initiative, responsibility, flexibility and leadership, possess a thorough knowledge of contract administration and office procedures, ability to perform small repairs, knowledge of local, provincial and federal workplace compliance regulations, ordinances and legislation, possess a valid drivers license, able to create alternative solutions to problems, excellent time management and project management skills, high level of sound and independent judgment and reasoning, ability to interpret and implement company policies and procedures, demonstrated ability to exercise necessary cost control measures, highly flexible, with solid interpersonal skills that allow one to work effectively in a diverse working environment, able to effectively communicate both verbally and in writing, able to work well under pressure, strong attention to detail, able to deal with people sensitively, tactfully, diplomatically, and professionally at all times, strong working knowledge of Microsoft computer software (e.g. Excel, Word, etc.) and email, cad, electrical control and PLC software, possess supervisory skills, proven ability to troubleshoot, conflict resolution skills, employee relations skills, statistical process control for machine capability, possess ISO TS14001 knowledge, and strong analytical, problem-solving, and decision-making.

Work conditions include 24/7 availability may be required, physical ability to lift up to 75lb, travel to the site, and off-site locations will be required, safety equipment will be required, overtime as required, hazards associated with the trade, work both indoors and outdoors, and will be exposed to construction sites.
