Director of Rehabilitative Services

OverviewThe Director of Rehabilitation is accountable for conducting and supervising rehabilitation programs to enable the patient to reach the maximum physical performance possible, prevent disability and to teach the patient and family to function within the scope of any permanent physical disability.ResponsibilitiesClinical/Professional Functions• Demonstrates clinical knowledge and skills necessary to provide rehabilitation services appropriate to the age of the patient served.• Completes comprehensive evaluations of physical function based upon clinical diagnosis, impairment, and/or injury in accordance with organizational policies and state practice act requirements.• Formulates therapy treatment plans based on physical assessments and evaluations.• Administers skilled therapy treatments in accordance with organizational policies and state practice act requirements.• Coordinates patient care with other clinical team members, community resources, and family members as indicated to ensure optimal patient care and communication.• Completes all required documentation and paperwork in accordance with organizational policies and state practice act requirements to accurately reflect care provided and outcomes achieved.• Maintains and enhances personal professional knowledge while promoting professional standards.• Provides supervision within the rehabilitation department to promote continuity of care.• Demonstrates behaviors that provide quality service in a safe and secure work environment.Management Functions• Supervises and manages the department to the satisfaction of the CCEO and/or Assistant CCEO.• Directs departmental functions to prevent interruptions in service.• Supervises, instructs, and evaluates rehabilitation staff members.• Participates in the annual budget development process through analysis of statistical information.• Manages department volume and revenue expectations in accordance with budgetary requirements.• Demonstrates strong planning, leadership, organizational, and control skills.• Demonstrates flexibility and the ability to manage multiple priorities and projects simultaneously.• Completes and justifies position requests, recruits candidates, conducts interviews, and selects qualified applicants for vacant positions.• Provides recommendations regarding departmental staffing ratios based on equipment, therapy staff, and services offered.• Ensures performance improvement processes are established to proactively manage the rehabilitation department and monitor clinical quality.• Establishes departmental goals, policies, and written procedures.• Develops and maintains inventory systems for supplies and equipment to ensure appropriate service delivery.• Initiates equipment requests and ensures equipment is maintained appropriately.• Monitors staff compliance with required licensure and certification requirements.• Promotes employee education and professional development activities.• Ensures staff training on therapy techniques, new treatment methods, and equipment necessary to meet patient needs.• Provides input for job descriptions and competencies to ensure compliance with current state board and licensure requirements.• May serve as a rehabilitation therapy consultant for employers, educational institutions, and community organizations.• May coordinate research projects designed to develop new approaches to rehabilitative therapy.• Educates and markets rehabilitative services to physicians, community organizations, and external agencies.• Performs other duties as assigned.QualificationsEducation• Certified, licensed, or registered healthcare professional required.• Bachelor's degree required.• Master's degree preferred.• Education level must meet applicable licensure requirements.Experience• Minimum of three (3) years of clinical experience required.• Minimum of one (1) year of management experience required.• Previous experience in administrative management preferred.• Experience working with and supervising all three rehabilitation disciplines (Physical Therapy, Occupational Therapy, and Speech-Language Pathology) preferred.• Experience working with large organizations or health systems preferred.Licenses & Certifications• Licensed, or eligible for licensure, as a therapist in the state where employed.• CPR Certification required.Required Skills, Knowledge & Abilities• Functional knowledge of teamwork dynamics and the ability to work effectively in a team-oriented environment.• Strong leadership and supervisory skills.• Computer skills required.• Experience with electronic medical records preferred.• Ability to manage multiple rehabilitation disciplines and coordinate interdisciplinary services.• Strong
