INVESTIGATOR

Overview Under the direction of the Lieutenant, Los Angeles Basin Region, the incumbent conducts complex and sensitive administrative, civil, and criminal investigations and other law enforcement activities for the California State Lottery. The role also provides technical advice to local, state and federal law enforcement agencies to assure the integrity, honesty, and fairness in the operation of the Lottery pursuant to Penal Code 830.3(p). The investigator may work alone, as part of an investigative team, or as a lead person and coordinate the work of other enforcement staff. The position requires effective oral and written communication, reading and interpreting codified laws, rules, and regulations. Salary: $6,339.00 - $10,609.00 per month (classification based on new to state or alternate range minimums). Telework: Hybrid; employee must be able to report to the assigned headquarters office and is responsible for travel expenses to and from the headquarters. Eligibility for telework requires residence in California and compliance with California Government Code Section 14200. Location & Schedule Headquarters: Chatsworth District Office. Schedule: Monday through Friday, 8:00 a.m. – 5:00 p.m. Investigator must be willing to work overtime, odd and irregular hours, nights, weekends, and holidays in various locations throughout the State and possess a valid California driver's license. Responsibilities Conduct complex and sensitive administrative, civil, and criminal investigations. Provide technical advice to state, local, and federal law enforcement agencies. Work independently, as part of a team, or lead investigative activities. Coordinate enforcement staff and manage investigative projects. Communicate findings and recommendations orally and in writing. Read and interpret codified laws, rules, and regulations related to investigations. Minimum Requirements Current Investigator exam with a valid score. Drug screening, background investigation, medical clearance, and psychological evaluation completed prior to hiring. Must meet all qualifications listed in the Classification Specification for the Investigator classification. Desirable Qualifications Valid POST academy certification or POST Basic Certificate. Experience with conducting interviews and/or interrogations of suspects, witnesses, and victims. In‑depth knowledge of investigative procedures and techniques, including computer data evaluation and problem solving. Ability to work independently or in a team environment.
