What you will be doing:

As a Public Health Nurse 2 within the Section of Epidemiology (EPI), you will play a key role in protecting the health of Alaskans through tuberculosis (TB) prevention, investigation, and treatment support. Based primarily in the Public Health Center, you will apply your public health nursing knowledge to support individuals with TB infection and disease, including helping ensure treatment completion. This position may also include travel to communities across Alaska to provide direct nursing services, education, and consultation in support of the Division's statewide public health mission.

Minimum Qualifications
Eligibility for licensure to practice as a Registered Nurse in the State of Alaska;

AND

Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) from an accredited college or university or Direct Entry Master of Science (MSN) in Nursing from an accredited college or university.
Special Notes:

Candidates not currently licensed by the State of Alaska, who otherwise meet the eligibility requirements for licensure as a Registered Nurse (RN) in the State of Alaska and requisite knowledge, skills, and abilities, may apply for vacancies in this job class. Applicants qualifying under this option may receive a conditional job offer; however, proof of RN licensure will be required prior to appointment and reporting for duty.
Candidates not actively enrolled, but who can provide proof of acceptance into an accredited Registered Nurse to Bachelor of Science in Nursing (RN-to-BSN) bridge program, may apply for vacancies in the Public Health Nurse I job class. Continued employment of the successful candidate is contingent upon active enrollment and attendance in the program commencing within six months of initial hire.
Successful performance of this work requires knowledge of principles and concepts of professional nursing, public and community health, and health care systems typically acquired through a course of study resulting in a Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) or Direct Entry Master of Science in Nursing (MSN). Continued employment and advancement from Public Health Nurse 1 to Public Health Nurse 2 is contingent upon maintaining active enrollment, in good academic standing, and successful completion of an accredited Registered Nurse to Bachelor of Science in Nursing (RN-to-BSN) bridge program within twenty-four months of initial hire, including time devoted to completing the enrollment process.
"Training" and "education" are synonyms for the process of acquiring knowledge and skills through instruction. It includes instruction through formal and informal methods (such as classroom, on-line, self-study, and on-the-job), from accredited and unaccredited sources, and long-duration (such as a post-secondary degree) and short-duration (such as a seminar) programs.
"Professional experience" means work that is creative, analytical, evaluative, and interpretive; requires a range and depth of specialized knowledge of the profession's principles, concepts, theories, and practices; and is performed with the power or right to decide or act according to one's own judgment.
"Progressively responsible" means indicating growth and/or advancement in complexity, difficulty, or level of responsibility.

Additional Required Information

  1. Three (3) professional references, whom we may contact by phone, are required. One (1) of these references must be your current or most recent supervisor, if not already provided in the application.
  2. Current performance evaluation, if available.
  3. A copy of academic transcripts (unofficial is okay; please ensure that the institution name/URL is listed on the transcripts) is used to verify that you meet the minimum qualifications.

  1. A copy of a current Alaska Registered Nurse license.
  2. A copy of current driver's license.
  3. Valid CPR certification
  4. Documentation of immunizations or immunity to the following:
    1. Tetanus, Diphtheria, Pertussis (Tdap)
    2. Measles, Mumps, Rubella (MMR)
    3. Varicella
  5. Documentation of annual Influenza or a signed declination.
  6. Documentation of complete Hepatitis B series, lab-confirmed immunity, or a signed declination for vaccination.
  7. Tuberculosis screening record within the last 12 months.
