WelderThis role performs high-quality welding and fabrication work using hand-welding and flame-cutting equipment to join metal components, repair or reinforce structures, and finish fabricated metal products. You will work with a variety of metals and welding processes, interpret blueprints and engineering drawings, and ensure all work meets precise specifications and safety standards.ResponsibilitiesPerform MIG and TIG welding on carbon steel, stainless steel, aluminum, cast iron, and other alloys in flat, vertical, and overhead positions.Use hand-welding or flame-cutting equipment to weld or join metal components, and to fill holes, indentations, or seams of fabricated metal products.Lay out, position, align, and securely assemble parts prior to welding using straightedges, combination squares, calipers, rulers, and other layout tools.Examine workpieces for defects and measure them with straightedges, templates, and precision instruments to ensure conformance with specifications.Clamp, hold, tack-weld, heat-bend, grind, or bolt component parts to achieve required configurations and positions for welding.Determine appropriate welding equipment, processes, and methods by applying knowledge of metallurgy, geometry, and welding techniques.Monitor fitting, burning, and welding processes to prevent overheating, warping, shrinking, distortion, or unwanted expansion of materials.Analyze engineering drawings, blueprints, specifications, sketches, work orders, and material safety data sheets to plan layout, assembly, and welding operations.Mark or tag material with correct job numbers, piece marks, and other identifying information as required for tracking and quality control.Chip or grind off excess weld, slag, or spatter using hand scrapers, power chippers, portable grinders, or arc-cutting equipment to achieve clean finishes.Remove rough spots and surface imperfections from workpieces using portable grinders, hand files, or scrapers.Prepare material surfaces for welding by removing loose or thick scale, slag, rust, moisture, grease, and other foreign matter to ensure proper weld quality.Preheat workpieces prior to welding or bending using torches or heating furnaces when required by procedures or specifications.Develop templates and models for welding projects using mathematical calculations based on blueprint information.Position and secure workpieces using hoists, cranes, wire, banding machines, and hand tools to ensure safe and accurate setup.Check grooves, angles, and gap allowances with micrometers, calipers, and precision measuring instruments to confirm correct fit-up.Maintain a clean and organized work area, follow all safety guidelines, and properly use and care for welding equipment and shop tools.Essential SkillsProficiency in MIG welding, with the ability to perform approximately 95% of work using MIG processes on steel, aluminum, and stainless steel.Hands-on experience with TIG welding on various metals, including stainless steel and aluminum alloys.Minimum of 1 year of welding experience in a fabrication or similar industrial environment.Ability to read and interpret blueprints, engineering drawings, specifications, and work orders.Strong understanding of welding techniques, metallurgy, geometry, and material properties.Skilled in using layout and measuring tools such as straightedges, combination squares, calipers, rulers, micrometers, and precision instruments.Capability to weld in multiple positions, including flat, vertical, and overhead.Experience working with carbon steel, stainless steel, and aluminum alloys in fabrication and welding applications.High School Diploma or equivalent.Ability to safely operate welding and cutting equipment, hoists, cranes, and related shop tools.Attention to detail and commitment to meeting quality and specification requirements.Physical ability to work in a fabrication shop environment, including standing for extended periods and handling materials and equipment.Additional Skills & QualificationsTechnical school certificate in welding or formal welding training (desired but not required).Experience developing templates and models for welding projects using mathematical calculations.Familiarity with material safety data sheets and safe handling of metals and consumables.Strong problem-solving skills to determine optimal welding methods and sequences.Ability to identify and correct defects such as slag, spatter, and rough surfaces using appropriate tools.Comfort working with a variety of alloys and adapting techniques to different materials.Organizational skills for marking and tracking materials with job numbers and piece marks.Willingness to work overtime as needed to meet production demands.Why Work Here?You join a team that values craftsmanship, variety, and continuous learning. The shop is dirty, rough, and tough, consistent with the nature and scale of fabrication work, and you should be comfortable working around industrial equipment, welding fumes, and metal debris while following all safety protocols. You will use welding machines (primarily MIG, with some TIG), cutting and grinding tools, hoists, cranes, and banding equipment as part of daily operations. The role is on first shift, Monday through Thursday from 6:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., with regular opportunities for overtime on Fridays and Saturdays. Standard fabrication shop attire and appropriate personal protective equipment are required to ensure safety and compliance with shop guidelines.Job Type & LocationThis is a Contract to Hire position based out of Pulaski, TN.Pay and BenefitsThe pay range for this position is $20.00 - $27.00/hr.Individual compensation offered for this position within this range will depend on many factors, including qualifications, skills, relevant experience, job knowledge, geographic location, internal equity, and other pertinent job-related factors.Eligibility requirements apply to some benefits and may depend on your job classification and length of employment.
