Under the direction of the Shop Foreman, Mechanics are responsible for the repair, maintenance, and upfit of construction vehicles in a safe and efficient manner. This position is primarily upfitting new vehicles, repairing and maintaining fleet equipment/vehicles.Role and Responsibilities:Upfitting new licensed fleet units.Installing electrical components, hydraulic components, water systems, storage compartments, mounting beds, van bodies, water tanks, etc.Keeps equipment available for use by completing preventive maintenance schedules; installing component and part upgrades; controlling corrosion; completing winterization proceduresCorrects deficiencies by removing, repairing, adjusting, overhauling, assembling, disassembling, and replacing major assemblies, sub-assemblies, components, parts, or systems, such as, power and drive trains, electrical, air conditioning, fuel, emission, brake, steering, hydraulics; completes machine shop operations; making adjustments and alignments including bearing loads, gear tooth contact, valve mechanisms, governors, oil systems, control linkages, clutches, and traction unitsVerifies proper performance by conducting test drives; adjusting controls and systems.Complies with federal and state vehicle requirements by testing engine, safety, and combustion control standardsMaintains vehicle records by annotating services and repair logsKeeps shop equipment operating by following operating instructions; troubleshooting breakdowns; maintaining supplies; performing preventive maintenance; initiating repairsContains costs by using warranty; evaluating service and parts optionsUpdates job knowledge by participating in educational opportunities; reading technical and regulation publicationsPerforms other related duties as required and assignedRequirements:A valid Driver's License and satisfactory driving record.
