Position Summary

We are seeking an experienced  Machine Builder with a strong background in precision automation equipment to join our shop team. In this hands-on role, you will be responsible for the safe and efficient assembly of complex automation machinery from blueprint through final build verification.

The ideal candidate will have experience working with mechanical, structural, and precision components in a custom automation or machine-building environment. You will collaborate closely with Engineering to ensure every machine meets customer specifications and quality standards while mentoring less experienced builders and contributing to a safe, positive, and high-performing shop culture.

Key Responsibilities

• Lead the assembly of precision automation equipment from blueprint through final build verification
• Ensure projects are completed on time and meet customer specifications and quality requirements
• Analyze assembly blueprints, specifications manuals, and build documentation to plan machine build activities
• Fit, align, and assemble mechanical components manually or using hoists and lifting equipment
• Fasten and secure components using:
• • Screws
  • Bolts
  • Welding methods as required
• Set up and operate machine shop equipment including:
• • Bridgeport mill
  • Lathe
  • Surface grinder
• Fabricate or modify components as needed to support machine assembly
• Safely operate forklifts and overhead cranes to move equipment, position machinery, and load trucks
• Properly use hand and power tools including:
• • Saws
  • Grinders
  • Sanders
  • Drills
• Verify conformance of parts to blueprints and stock lists using precision measuring tools including:
• • Calipers
  • Gauges
  • Micrometers
• Verify alignment and tolerances of moving components using:
• • Dial indicators
  • Thickness gauges
  • Gauge blocks
• Assemble, set up, and operate machines to verify proper functionality and customer specification compliance
• Maintain a high level of quality awareness and workmanship throughout all build activities
• Mentor and support less experienced builders while promoting a positive and safe work environment
• Collaborate with Engineering to identify root causes of build issues and implement corrective actions
• Support shipping and receiving activities as needed
• Follow all safety procedures, PPE requirements, and company policies
• Maintain a clean, organized, and safe work environment

Qualifications

• Minimum 5 years of hands-on machine building experience with a:
• • Custom automation integrator
  • Precision machine builder
  • Automated equipment manufacturer
• Demonstrated ability to perform skilled precision assembly on complex mechanical systems while maintaining tight tolerances
• Working knowledge of:
• • Bridgeport mills
  • Lathes
  • Surface grinders
• Proficiency using precision measuring instruments including:
• • Calipers
  • Micrometers
  • Dial indicators
  • Gauge blocks
• Forklift certification or experience operating forklifts safely
• Overhead crane experience required or ability to obtain certification
• Ability to read and interpret:
• • Mechanical assembly blueprints
  • Engineering drawings
  • Build documentation
• Strong attention to detail with a consistent focus on quality, precision, and safety
• Strong communication skills and ability to work collaboratively with engineering and shop teams
• Ability to lift up to 50 lbs independently
• Ability to stand, walk, bend, and work around machinery throughout the workday
• Willingness to work overtime as needed to support project schedules

Preferred Qualifications

• Welding experience including:
• • MIG welding
  • TIG welding
  • Equivalent fabrication methods
• Familiarity with:
• • Pneumatic assembly
  • Hydraulic systems
  • Electrical assembly in automation environments
• Experience traveling to customer facilities for machine installation, startup, or support

Work Environment

• Industrial shop environment with hands-on machine assembly activities
• Frequent use of machinery, lifting equipment, and power tools
• PPE required in designated areas
• Overtime and occasional travel may be required based on project demands
