Materials Manager

Materials Manager – Job Description Essential Duties and Responsibilities Establish database parameters for MRP and related production software systems. Assist with establishing and maintaining business practices, procedures and documentation that ensure control of supplier releases, incoming material shipments, receiving documents, inventory levels, material storage and movement, and shipments to the customer. Review schedule variations of customer schedule changes and recover premium freight costs as required. Lead materials annual profit planning and monthly outlooks. Monitor the activities of subordinates and ensure accuracy and integrity of all materials-related record keeping. Monitor and measure supplier performance to ensure compliance with established quality and delivery standards. Document and manage customer delivery performance, including on-time delivery, shipment accuracy, and packaging issues. Maintain excellent customer relations and oversee supplier delivery performance. Oversee data and maintenance of the Bill of Material database, monitor performance of implementation changes and load new end items. Minimize inventory levels on balance‑out parts and submit obsolescence claims when appropriate. Ensure conformance to all BOS and IATF requirements applicable to the position. Review performance of each subordinate to facilitate employee training and development per company policy. Ensure safe operation of all material handling equipment and maintenance, and timely licensing and testing for all operators. Maintain storage, warehouse racking, forklift safety standards and standard receiving and shipping procedures. Control documentation and record keeping for returnable container tracking, damaged containers, and repairs. Establish goals and action plans for continuous reduction in packaging, material handling, transportation, and inventory costs. Measure Truckload Utilization Management (TUMS) and report potential cost savings and freight mode changes. Maintain compliance with all company customs processes and procedures. Report accidents, occupational illnesses, and HSE&E emergencies, assist in investigations, and participate in the 8D root‑cause analysis process. Ensure required warehouse and safety audits are completed. Work with customer‑specific requirements and perform miscellaneous duties as assigned by the department manager. Required Education and Experience Bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience in Materials Management. Five to ten years of experience in Materials Management, preferably in manufacturing and JIT automotive sequencing. Knowledge of Material Requirement Planning (MRP) or equivalent. Preferred ERP experience with QAD and SAP. Strong Excel and Microsoft applications skills. Experience overseeing salary and hourly employees.
