Pay Grade/Pay Range:  Minimum: $27.21 - Midpoint: $35.38 (Hourly N9)

Department/Organization:  507121 - Police Operations

Normal Work Schedule:  Varies; May include holidays, weekends, overtime, and voluntary and mandatory events; Hours are subject to change based on the operational needs of the unit, departments, and the University community.

Job Summary:  The Police Officer I - Safe Streets Task Force (SSTF) performs law enforcement duties, under moderate supervision, at the state and federal levels. Identifies and targets criminal enterprise groups for prosecution, including those involved in drug trafficking, money laundering, alien smuggling, violent crimes such as murder and aggravated assault, robbery, and violent street gang activity. Focuses on the apprehension of dangerous fugitives when there is or may be a federal investigative interest.

Additional Department Summary:  Drives a University vehicle. Must meet and adhere to the established guidelines for the use of a UAPD assigned take-home vehicle.

Required Minimum Qualifications: 

Police Officer I - SSTF

Must be a current Police Officer I in good standing at the University of Alabama. Must have received a “meets expectations” or higher on most recent performance evaluation. Final candidates must submit to and successfully pass a post-offer drug screen. Must have valid U.S. driver’s license. Must be at least 21 years of age at time of hire and have an acceptable Motor Vehicle Report that is in compliance with University policies. Must be able to pass an in-depth background check conducted by the Department of Justice and be able to obtain all necessary security clearances.

Police Officer II - SSTF

Must be a current Police Officer II in good standing at the University of Alabama. Must have received a “meets expectations” or higher on most recent performance evaluation. Final candidates must submit to and successfully pass a post-offer drug screen. Must have valid U.S. driver’s license. Must be at least 21 years of age at time of hire and have an acceptable Motor Vehicle Report that is in compliance with University policies. Must be able to pass an in-depth background check conducted by the Department of Justice and be able to obtain all necessary security clearances.

Police Field Training Officer - SSTF

Must be a current Police Field Training Officer in good standing at the University of Alabama. Must have received a “meets expectations” or higher on most recent performance evaluation. Final candidates must submit to and successfully pass a post-offer drug screen. Must have valid U.S. driver’s license. Must be at least 21 years of age at time of hire and have an acceptable Motor Vehicle Report that is in compliance with University policies. Must be able to pass an in-depth background check conducted by the Department of Justice and be able to obtain all necessary security clearances.

Skills and Knowledge:  Skills and knowledge related to being a Police Officer. Ability to conduct complex investigations. Ability to analyze and cross-reference investigative data, intelligence reports, surveillance information, and law enforcement database results to identify patterns, associations, and investigative leads. Knowledge of federal, state, and local criminal laws, investigative procedures, arrest authority, search and seizure requirements, and constitutional protections, including a strong understanding of the Fourth Amendment. Ability to apply sound tactics when conducting arrests, serving warrants, executing search warrants, and participating in surveillance or other high-risk operations. Knowledge of evidence handling, documentation, reporting, and chain-of-custody procedures in accordance with FBI and agency policy. Ability to communicate, coordinate, and share information effectively with FBI personnel, prosecutors, and federal, state, and local law enforcement partners. Ability to prepare clear, accurate, and timely reports, affidavits, summaries, and investigative documentation. Must demonstrate courage, integrity, discretion, professionalism, sound tactical judgment, physical fitness, and safety awareness. Must be available for on-call duty, extended hours, irregular schedules, emergency callouts, travel, and rapidly evolving situations.

Preferred Qualifications:  Experience conducting violent crime investigations or organized criminal enterprises. Prior assignment to a federal, state, local, or multi-agency task force. Experience preparing investigative reports, affidavits, warrant applications, case summaries, and prosecution-related documentation while coordinating with prosecutors and law enforcement partners.
