Ferries Application Developer - Senior/Specialist

Salary: $104,265 - 140,288 per year Requirements:

• Advanced understanding of software development, application architecture, systems analysis, database technologies, web development, and enterprise systems integration
• Strong knowledge of application development principles, methods, tools, and practices for designing, building, testing, deploying, maintaining, and supporting business or operational technology solutions
• Knowledge of application interfaces, automated processes, data exchanges, APIs, reporting solutions, and integration approaches that support reliable interoperability and accurate data handling
• Advanced hands-on experience developing applications with Microsoft technologies, including C#, .NET/.NET Framework, Visual Studio, and related tools
• Advanced experience with Microsoft SQL Server, including database design, performance tuning, reporting, and enterprise data management
• Advanced experience with web technologies such as ASP.NET, HTML, CSS, JavaScript, and related frameworks and tools
• Knowledge of cybersecurity, privacy, accessibility, and operational standards, with the ability to build those requirements into development and support work
• Strong verbal and written communication skills for working with customers, vendors, stakeholders, management, and technical teams
• Demonstrated growth mindset and service-oriented approach
• A valid drivers license and ability to operate state-owned vehicles
• Ability to respond to field support requests at any Washington State Ferries location or field site
• Ability to provide support outside standard business hours, including evenings, weekends, and holidays as needed
• Ability to carry a pager, cell phone, or similar device and respond promptly to incidents, disruptions, emergencies, or critical issues
• Ability to distinguish and interpret color-coded information as needed for duties such as web development, user interface design, accessibility review, and technical troubleshooting
• Preferred: experience in application support, cloud technologies, database technologies, cybersecurity, enterprise integrations, DevOps, PCI or other regulated environments, reporting and data integration tools, cloud platforms, and mission-critical applications

• We design, develop, modernize, implement, and maintain applications, integrations, automation solutions, reports, workflows, and supporting services for critical Washington State Ferries business and operational functions
• We analyze complex business, operational, technical, and regulatory needs through stakeholder consultation, requirements review, system assessment, and technical research to create scalable, secure, maintainable, and supportable solutions
• We write and update application code, integration components, APIs, automation routines, data transformations, and database objects
• We coordinate implementation activities with customers, vendors, infrastructure teams, cybersecurity staff, and support personnel to reduce service disruption and support successful deployments
• We design, build, support, and troubleshoot complex integrations, interfaces, authentication services, automated processes, APIs, and data exchanges to ensure dependable interoperability and data availability
• We investigate, prioritize, and resolve complex production issues affecting applications, databases, integrations, security controls, performance, and service availability, including coordinating restoration efforts and preventing repeat incidents
• We plan and carry out application upgrades, software releases, system migrations, maintenance work, and deployment activities to sustain reliability and performance
• We develop, support, and maintain applications operating in PCI and cardholder data environments to help protect sensitive data and maintain compliance
• We participate in on-call support, continuity-of-operations activities, disaster recovery efforts, and emergency response activities to help ensure uninterrupted technology services
