Shift Lead

Job Summary The Shift Lead is the on‑site leadership for the hospital, coordinating and guiding paraprofessional staff while performing veterinary assistant/tech duties. The role balances approximately 20% leadership and 80% paraprofessional responsibilities to maintain hospital productivity and client service. Responsibilities The Shift Lead supports the Practice Manager or Chief of Staff in ensuring effective communication with clients, associates, and central teams. Duties include patient flow management, financial oversight, quality checks, and hands‑on veterinary support during procedures. Paraprofessional Responsibilities Live and exemplify Mars, Inc.’s Five Principles. Perform duties of a CSC and/or veterinary assistant/technician: recruit new clients, manage client flow, maximize patient throughput, provide courteous service, educate clients on wellness plans, complete procedures that do not require a veterinarian or technician, prepare for and monitor surgical and hospitalized pets, and maintain accurate medical charts. Manage finances, including accurate balances and opening/closing procedures. Assist in surgery, facilitate safe restraint techniques, and keep treatment areas clean and sterile. Carry out administrative functions as required. Leadership Responsibilities Help develop a productive team that delivers high‑quality care and service. Assist with scheduling, training, supervision, and performance of paraprofessional staff. Provide exemplary client service and resolve client issues. Communicate effectively with associates, clients, hospital leadership, and central support. Ensure compliance with dress, grooming, safety, and operating protocols. Prepare cases for the day, manage inpatient transitions, and triage the treatment board. Identify and resolve operational bottlenecks and implement solutions. Train and mentor new associates; maintain quality checks on medical records, medications, and hospital cleanliness. Address equipment issues and assist with inventory management. Pay The pay range for this role is $16.65 – $21.28 per hour, based on experience, skill level, education, and location.
