An MRI Technologist (Magnetic Resonance Imaging Tech) is a specialized healthcare professional who operates advanced scanner equipment to create detailed, 3D diagnostic images of a patient's internal organs, tissues, and bone structures. This role sits at the intersection of complex medical physics, advanced technology, and direct patient care.
Job Summary
The MRI Technologist is responsible for performing high-quality magnetic resonance exams according to established medical protocols. They ensure patient safety within the high-magnetic-field environment (ACR Zone IV), prepare and position patients, adjust technical parameters on the equipment, and deliver clear images to the radiologist for diagnostic interpretation.
Core Responsibilities

• Patient Screening & Safety: Conduct strict safety screenings to check patients for metal implants, pacemakers, pregnancy, or tattoos that could be dangerous near a strong magnetic field.
• Patient Care & Preparation: Explain the MRI procedure clearly, answer questions, and reassure anxious or claustrophobic individuals.
• Positioning: Properly position patients on the scanner cradle using support and immobilization devices to ensure comfort and image accuracy.
• Technical Scanner Operation: Select the appropriate imaging techniques, coils, and protocol factors (such as TR, TE, slice thickness, and field of view) to produce high-resolution images.
• Contrast Administration: Perform venipuncture to intravenously inject gadolinium contrast dyes when required by the protocol.
• Quality Assurance: Review and proof captured images for technical quality before transferring them to the Picture Archiving and Communication System (PACS).
• Documentation & Maintenance: Maintain meticulous patient electronic medical records, document exam notes, perform basic machine calibration, and report equipment errors.
