About Smart Infrastructure – Electrification and Automation:

The EA Business Unit in Wendell, North Carolina, which is its U.S. headquarters, focuses on photovoltaic inverters, medium-voltage power distribution equipment including packaging and services, and solutions, including automation.

We are looking for a Sr Application Engineer. This Hybrid position will be based in Wendell, NC. Relocation assistance is available.

We are seeking a highly motivated Sr Application Engineer to support the growth of our Utility, Generation, and Transmission market segments across North America. This is a high-impact, customer-facing engineering role for someone who enjoys solving complex technical challenges, influencing customer decisions, and developing differentiated Siemens solutions for critical power infrastructure projects.

In this role, you will work with investor-owned utilities, independent power producers, EPC contractors, renewable developers, consulting engineers, and Siemens sales and business development teams to translate customer needs into technically sound, commercially competitive, and value-added solutions. You will help customers evaluate alternatives, modernize aging infrastructure, improve reliability, reduce lifecycle risk, and adopt next-generation Siemens digital solutions.

You’ll make an impact by:

• Serve as a trusted technical advisor to utilities, EPCs, engineers, renewable developers, and industrial customers, translating business and operational needs into Siemens power distribution solutions.
• Lead customer discussions, design reviews, workshops, and presentations to influence specifications, system architecture, and procurement strategies.
• Develop and position integrated power distribution solutions including MV switchgear, E-Houses, control buildings, LV switchgear, MCCs, transformers, protection & control, and automation systems.
• Collaborate with customers and internal teams to optimize solutions through value engineering, reliability, resiliency, sustainability, and total cost of ownership analysis.
• Develop competitive technical and commercial proposals, aligning solution architecture, pricing, execution strategy, schedules, and risk management to win business.
• Partner with engineering, manufacturing, product management, and sales teams to deliver differentiated solutions and support profitable growth in utility, generation, and transmission markets.
• Identify and mitigate technical, commercial, contractual, supply chain, and execution risks while leveraging market intelligence and industry trends to strengthen Siemens' competitive position.
• Drive innovation, operational excellence, and continuous improvement through digitalization, process optimization, and support of grid modernization and next-generation power system initiatives.

You’ll win us over by having the following qualifications:

Basic Qualifications:

• Bachelor's Degree in Electrical Engineering or a related discipline.
• 5+ years of experience in power distribution, power systems, utility engineering, applications engineering, proposal engineering, project engineering, or system design.
• Strong understanding of medium-voltage power distribution systems.
• Experience reviewing one-line diagrams, utility standards, relay schemes, and project specifications.
• Knowledge of switchgear, MCCs, transformers, protection and control, SCADA integration, or substation equipment.

Preferred Qualifications:

• Familiarity with IEEE, ANSI, NEMA, NEC, and utility design standards.
