Research Associate - Free-electron laser physics

Position Overview SLAC National Accelerator Laboratory seeks a Research Associate within the Accelerator Directorate with a focus on free-electron laser physics. The associate will work on diverse accelerator projects related to attosecond science with the LCLS-II and LCLS-II HE x-ray free‑electron lasers (FEL). Responsibilities include performing experiments, simulations, and theoretical work. The position is a two‑year fixed term with possibility of extension. Responsibilities Develop new FEL operation modes to enable new science at LCLS, with special emphasis on attosecond science. Advance knowledge of FEL physics. Engage in the design, support, operation, and scientific exploitation of major programs at the laboratory. Work independently on specific tasks in support of the research program, frequently interacting with the laboratory’s scientific community. Required Qualifications Ph.D. in Accelerator Physics or related field. Demonstrated effective written and verbal communication skills. Demonstrated ability to work independently and in a team environment. Research experience and accomplishments in the field of expertise. Preferred Qualifications Experience with X‑ray free‑electron lasers and related physics. Experience with numerical simulations of particle accelerators. On‑site work is required. Pay and Benefits The expected pay range is $70,000 to $100,000 per annum. Pay is based on scope, responsibilities, qualifications, budget, equity, location, and market.
