Medical Director

Role Description The Medical Director is a full-time, on-site leadership role based in Boston, MA, responsible for overseeing clinical quality, patient safety, and care standards across assigned facilities or service lines. The Medical Director will provide clinical oversight to physicians and advanced practice professionals, support evidence-based practice, and ensure compliance with regulatory and accreditation requirements. Daily responsibilities include reviewing clinical protocols, participating in case reviews, monitoring performance metrics, and collaborating with multidisciplinary teams to improve patient outcomes and operational efficiency. The role involves mentoring and coaching providers, supporting continuing medical education, and serving as a key liaison between clinical staff and administrative leadership. The Medical Director will also help shape strategic initiatives, contribute to program development, and champion a patient-centered culture aligned with Essen Health Care’s mission and values. Qualifications Strong leadership and management skills, including experience supervising clinical teams, guiding performance improvement, and leading change initiatives. Clinical expertise in primary care, internal medicine, family medicine, or a related specialty, with a focus on evidence-based practice and quality of care. Excellent communication and interpersonal skills for effective collaboration with physicians, advanced practice professionals, nurses, and administrative staff. Demonstrated ability in clinical governance, quality assurance, patient safety, and compliance with regulatory and accreditation standards. Experience working in integrated or multi-site healthcare delivery systems, preferably serving diverse and under-served patient populations. Doctor of Medicine (MD or DO) from an accredited institution; completion of an accredited residency and board certification in a relevant specialty. Active, unrestricted medical license (and eligibility for licensure in Massachusetts) and current DEA registration. Proven organizational, analytical, and problem-solving skills, with the ability to use data to drive clinical and operational improvements.
