Certified Coding Specialist

Working remotely on a full-time basis, a Certified Coding Specialist will review medical documentation, assign appropriate codes (ICD-10, HCPCS, CPT), and ensure compliance with coding standards while collaborating with medical professionals to enhance documentation accuracy. Key responsibilities Review and audit medical records to assign diagnostic and procedure codes accurately Support technical and professional services in provider clinics and Ambulatory Surgery Centers (ASC) Participate in coding team meetings and serve as a subject matter expert on coding guidelines Required qualifications Associate degree in Health Information Technology or Certification in Coding required Knowledge of ICD, CPT, and HCPCS coding schemes preferred Certification as a Certified Coding Specialist (CCS) or equivalent required, with certification to be obtained within one year if not already certified Experience with Athena and Paragon systems is ideal Understanding of National Correct Coding Initiative (NCCI) edits and relative value units
