Supervisory wildland firefighter (type 1 wildland fire module (wfm) handcrew)

Summary This position is located at a USDA Forest Service Unit. The primary responsibility is leadership of a wildland fire module, planning and implementing planned and unplanned wildland fire and hazardous fuels operations. Duties / Responsibilities Supervise a group of employees; establish guidelines and performance expectations. Recognize, react to and communicate changes in predicted weather and fire behavior. Adapt planned strategies and tactics to identify and relocate firelines, escape routes, and safety zones. Participate on incidents involving wildland urban interface situations. Plan and implement work activities such as setting priorities, coordinating resources, vehicles, supplies, equipment, developing job hazard analysis, and conducting job skill training. Assign resources, conduct safety meetings, monitor work quality and quantity, track budget expenditures, and report work progress and project accomplishments. Perform wildfire suppression support as directed within training and physical capabilities. Requirements Must be a U.S. Citizen or National. Males born after 12-31-1959 must be registered for Selective Service or exempt. Subject to satisfactory adjudication of background investigation and fingerprint check. Successful completion of one-year probationary period unless previously served. Passed E-Verify employment verification check. Must be 18 years of age. Subject to drug testing; appointment based on negative result. Pass the Work Capacity Test for certain positions. Willing to live/work in remote locations. Must meet additional conditions regarding driver's license, CDL, physical exam, etc. if applicable. Qualifications Specialized experience: One year specialized experience equivalent to GW-07 for a GW-08, or GW-08 for a GW-09. Demonstrated experience leading fire suppression, coordinating resources, and performing prescribed burn plans. Selective placement factors: Completion of NWCG core requirements (Task Force Leader, Prescribed Burn Boss, Incident Commander). Must hold IFPM or FS-FPM qualifications, with IQCS master record evidence of selective placement factor. Education There is no education qualification requirement.
