Payroll Specialist

The Payroll Specialist is responsible for processing accurate and timely payroll for high-volume, multi-state employees across Riley Decker Companies. This role ensures compliance with federal, state, and local regulations while delivering exceptional service to internal teams, associates, and external partners. The Payroll Specialist will handle payroll processing, auditing, troubleshooting payroll issues, and supporting ongoing improvements to payroll systems and processes. This position requires strong attention to detail, excellent communication skills, and the ability to thrive in a fast-paced, team-oriented environment.

Primary Responsibilities and Duties

• Payroll Processing & Compliance
  • Process weekly and bi-weekly payroll for multi-state employees across various company locations.
  • Review, audit, and reconcile timekeeping records for accuracy prior to payroll submission.
  • Ensure compliance with wage and hour laws, garnishments, tax regulations, and company policies.
  • Maintain accurate payroll records and employee data within HRIS and payroll systems.
  • Review and verify new hire entries, terminations, deductions, and adjustments.
• Customer Service & Issue Resolution
  • Serve as a primary contact for payroll-related questions from associates, managers, and internal departments.
  • Research and resolve discrepancies related to pay, timecards, tax issues, and system errors.
  • Respond promptly and professionally to all payroll inquiries.
• Reporting & Audits
  • Generate payroll reports for Finance, HR, and Operations as needed.
  • Support internal and external audits by providing payroll data and documentation.
  • Assist with quarterly and yearly payroll reconciliations and reporting requirements.
• System Support & Process Improvement
  • Utilize payroll and timekeeping systems to ensure accurate and efficient payroll operations.
  • Recommend process improvements to enhance accuracy, reduce errors, and increase efficiency.
  • Support system upgrades, testing, and implementation of new payroll tools or features.

Required Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED required.
• 2+ years of payroll processing experience; high-volume or multi-state payroll preferred.
• Strong knowledge of payroll regulations, wage and hour laws, and tax requirements.
• Proficiency with payroll or HRIS systems (ADP, Paycor, iSolved, UKG, etc.).
• Strong attention to detail and accuracy.
• Excellent communication and customer service skills.
• Ability to manage multiple deadlines in a fast-paced environment.
• Proficiency in Microsoft Excel, Outlook, and general computer skills.

Preferred Qualifications

• Experience in staffing, light industrial, or multi-location workforce environments.
• Knowledge of iSolved, PrismHR, or similar staffing-industry payroll platforms.
• Experience with garnishments, tax filings, and multi-state payroll compliance.
• Associate's or Bachelor's degree in Business, Accounting, HR, or related field.
• CPP (Certified Payroll Professional) or FPC certification a plus.

Compensation & Benefits

• Hourly (Non-Exempt) $21-24/hr
• Bonus: Monthly variable compensation based on performance
• Paid Time Off (PTO): 15 days per calendar year (January–December)
