The Accelerated Schools

About the Accelerated School At The Accelerated Schools, we believe in the boundless potential of every student and are committed to helping them thrive. Located just south of Downtown Los Angeles, we serve a vibrant community of over 1,700 TK–12 students and are dedicated to preparing them to excel in college, career, and life. Our approach blends innovation, equity, and compassion, creating an environment where students are empowered to take ownership of their learning and their future. Resource Specialist Teacher Job Summary: Reporting to the Principal, the Resource Specialist Teacher designs and delivers individualized instruction for students by assessing academic, social‑emotional, and transition needs and using data to guide instruction, behavior supports, and IEP goals. Implements diverse instructional strategies and intervention programs to meet varied learner needs while promoting engagement, independence, and critical thinking. Maintains a safe, structured, and respectful learning environment through consistent behavior management, close supervision, and proactive de‑escalation practices. Collaborates with general education teachers and outside agencies to support students with disabilities (SWD). Ensures accurate, timely documentation and participates professionally as a team member while modeling positive behavior and communication. What You Will Do Collaborate with general education teachers, related service providers, and support staff to ensure students with disabilities receive appropriate IEP‑mandated accommodations, modifications, and services in the Least Restrictive Environment (LRE). Partner closely with teams to design inclusive instructional practices that maximize student access to the general education curriculum through push‑in, pull‑out, and consultation models, as determined by each student’s IEP. Design and implement specialized, student‑centered instruction by conducting and analyzing academic, social‑emotional, behavioral, and transition‑related assessments. Translate assessment data into targeted instructional plans aligned to IEP goals and services, continuously refining instruction based on progress monitoring, data analysis, and individual student strengths and needs. Design engaging, inclusive instructional activities by leveraging multiple instructional strategies, intervention programs, and educational technologies. Design learning experiences that elevate student voice, choice, collaboration, and critical thinking and make learning relevant, rigorous, and connected to real‑world contexts. Empower students to own their learning by co‑creating and clearly communicating meaningful academic and personal goals. Help students track progress, reflect on outcomes, and build the confidence and skills needed to become self‑directed learners. Maintain accurate, timely, and compliant documentation including IEPs, progress reports, service logs, assessment data, behavior documentation, and communication records, in alignment with IDEA, California Education Code, district policies, and procedural timelines. Champion high‑quality, student‑centered IEPs by understanding each student’s history, strengths, and needs. Lead and contribute to IEP and treatment planning meetings with clarity and purpose. Develop measurable goals, implement targeted interventions, monitor progress, and communicate outcomes with students, families, and partners. Advocate for services in the Least Restrictive Environment (LRE) while ensuring students receive appropriate support to access and succeed in the general education curriculum. Support positive behavior and social‑emotional development by implementing behavior supports and strategies aligned with IEPs, Behavior Intervention Plans (when applicable), and schoolwide frameworks such as Restorative Practices. Foster a safe, predictable, and inclusive learning environment that strengthens student belonging and accountability. Ensure student safety through proactive supervision and anticipation by maintaining constant awareness, using strategic proximity, and intervening early to prevent escalation. Apply analytical judgment and calm presence to support students through challenging moments. Demonstrate professionalism and collaboration by modeling empathy, ethical practice, accountability, and respect while contributing positively to multidisciplinary teams and school culture. Strengthen partnerships with families and external agencies by maintaining open, collaborative communication, coordinating services, and supporting consistency between school, home, and community‑based supports. Engage in ongoing professional growth through required trainings, professional development, and staff collaboration to remain current with special education law, evidence‑based practices, and instructional strategies. Contribute to the broader school community by supporting schoolwide initiatives, committees, and responsibilities that advance the Accelerated Schools’ mission and vision, while advocating for inclusive practices and equitable outcomes for students with disabilities. Oversee the service delivery of Special Education Instructional Aides assigned to students on their caseload, ensuring supports are implemented in alignment with students’ IEPs. Our Ideal Teammate You are deeply mission‑driven and believe Accelerated can and will meet audacious goals. You connect vision to outcomes by prioritizing strategically and using data to guide decisions. You believe diversity drives innovation and actively foster inclusive environments. You reflect on how your decisions advance equity and inclusion and work in partnership with students, families, and community. You take ownership of your actions and impact. You reflect, seek feedback, adjust as needed, and hold yourself accountable for results. You value relationships and build trust through integrity, transparency, and follow‑through.
