About The Hub Argentine
The Hub Argentine is a non-profit organization located in the Argentine neighborhood of Kansas City, Kansas. The Hub Argentine focuses on developing deep relationships with our neighbors in the Argentine community and working with churches across the Northeast Kansas District of the United Methodist Church to connect them to the Argentine and Wyandotte County communities. Our work is modeled on Asset-Based Community Development, which celebrates God's abundant gifts and creation in every individual. We focus on getting to know our neighbors and building community through community organizing and intentional listening.
We currently offer 8 programs that connect neighbors to one another, celebrate the gifts of our community, and increase access to the resources needed for health and wholeness. Our Community Market, Clothing Closet, Community Garden, and Shower Program provide vital resources that support the well-being and dignity of our neighbors. In partnership with Youthfront Neighborhoods, we offer an after-school program for local children, while our Neighbors of Argentine program shares neighborhood stories and creates opportunities for connection through community events. Our community organizing efforts empower residents to build relationships, identify shared priorities, and work together to strengthen Argentine, and our Neighbor's Kitchen serves as a community space for cooking classes, nutrition education, shared meals, and food entrepreneurship.
Position Overview
The Program & Operations Associate is the operational backbone of The Hub's neighborhood programs. This person keeps the Community Market running week to week, supports the Adventure Academy After School Program, maintains the records and reports our programs depend on, coordinates volunteers, and serves as a key bilingual bridge between the organization and the community we serve.
The role blends hands-on program coordination with administrative work and front-line communications. No two days look exactly alike: mornings might involve market inventory and a Harvesters & Partner Agency report, afternoons a translated story for Neighbors of Argentine, snack coordination for the After School Program, and a volunteer schedule for the weekend.
This position is ideal for someone who is organized, relational, bilingual, and energized by variety; someone who takes satisfaction in the details holding together so that programs simply work for the neighbors who rely on them.
What You Will Do
Time allocations are approximate and will be confirmed together during your first 90 days. Percentage ranges flex week to week and by season; your combined workload will always fit within your scheduled 20 to 25 hours.
Community Market Operations (Approximately 30 to 35%)
Support Program Coordinator with ordering food and supplies for the Community Market (2 to 3 times per month), within the market budget.
Ensure food deliveries are received, unloaded, organized, and stored in appropriate locations.
Record weekly data for the Community Market and keep the database current by adding new contacts as they come in.
Prepare and submit monthly Harvesters & Partner Agency reports, accurately and on time.
Coordinate market volunteer coverage: maintain the calendar, send weekly reminders, and recruit new volunteers so every shift is filled.
Conduct monthly inventory and keep pest, temperature, and health-code compliance logs current.
Communications, Translation, and Front Desk (Approximately 20 to 25%)
Provide Spanish/English translation and interpretation across programs (2 to 3 times per week), including translating Neighbors of Argentine stories and outreach materials.
Serve as the daily front-line contact: monitor and respond to the main info email and phone within one business day, and welcome visitors.
Keep the website, internal and external calendars, and in-building communications accurate and current, reviewed weekly.
Take and organize program photos and keep marketing materials and program living documents up to date (monthly review).
Adventure Academy After School Program Support (Approximately 15 to 20%)
Administer and file all participant and volunteer paperwork before anyone participates in a session.
Drive a van with Adventure Academy Students on field trips (2 times per month).
Produce the monthly newsletter and coordinate weekly program snacks and water.
Assist with field trip logistics, including scheduling, permissions and paperwork.
Clothing Closet and Donation Records (Approximately 10%)
Keep donation records current: enter in-kind donations for the Clothing Closet and Community Market according to the SOP weekly.
Conduct monthly Clothing Closet inventory.
Community and Shower Program Support (Approximately 10 to 15%)
Coordinate weekly meal logistics with neighborhood cooks for community events and meetings, including reminders to participants.
Manage weekly care and hospitality for the Shower Program, ensuring supplies are available and coordinate cleaning of the shower with Operations Coordinator.
Monitor community surveys and compile a monthly summary of responses for the Executive Director.
Shared Team and Seasonal Support (Approximately 5 to 10%)
Share in the team-wide physical workload as needed: event setup and takedown, donation moving and shipments, and supply ordering.
Participate in Community Market and Clothing Closet leadership team meetings (average of 5 times per year per program).
Coordinate garden meal support (monthly) and garden supply ordering (3x year).
Assist with the SIMC market technology transition until complete.
Work Schedule and Environment
This is a part-time position, 20 to 25 hours per week on a variable schedule.
The role is fully on-site at 3730 Metropolitan Ave, with work across the market space, program rooms, and office.
Scheduled availability is required for:
After-school hours [2 to 3 days per week] during the school year.
Occasional evening and weekend hours for community events, such as community meals and serving teams.
This role includes standing for extended periods during market and program operations and lifting up to 30 pounds (donations, market stock, and supplies).
What Success Looks Like
Every monthly Harvesters & Partner Agency report is submitted on time and accurate.
Community Market volunteer shifts consistently covered.
Donation and program records entered weekly, with monthly Market and Clothing Closet inventories completed on schedule.
Complete student and volunteer paperwork before every program session, and a newsletter families can count on monthly.
Neighbors, volunteers, and partners getting prompt, accurate answers in the language they speak.
A reliable, welcoming presence at scheduled programs and community events.
Phone calls and emails are responded to within one business day.
Website and public calendars checked and updated weekly.
Shower Program session staffed, supplied, and on schedule.
Your First 90 Days
Milestones below will be reviewed together with the Executive Director.
By Day 1: Complete onboarding paperwork, background check, and Safe Gatherings Training.
By Day 30: Complete onboarding. Shadow the Community Market, Adventure Academy, and front desk. Learn the CMS, Little Green Light, and the Harvesters/TEFAP reporting workflow.
By Day 60: Independently manage weekly market data entry, volunteer scheduling and reminders, and front-desk communications. Submit your first Harvesters/TEFAP report with supervisor review. Begin providing translation and interpretation across programs.
By Day 90: Full responsibility of the recurring responsibilities listed above, including an on-time, accurate monthly report submitted independently. Confirm final time allocations and decision-making authority in writing with the Executive Director.
Qualifications
We value demonstrated skills and lived experience. No degree is required for this role.
Required
Fluency in spoken and written Spanish and English.
Strong organizational skills and the ability to manage many small, recurring tasks across multiple program areas without dropping details.
Comfort with email, electronic calendars, Word, Excel, and basic data entry into donor or program databases. Familiarity with Google Suite.
Warm, relational communication style with neighbors, volunteers, and children.
Ability to plan and carry out routine work independently in a busy, community-based environment.
Must be 18 years of age or older.
Satisfactory completion of a background check and Safe Gatherings Training; this role involves regular contact with minors, and training cost is covered by The Hub. Also, satisfactory driving record to be able to drive a van with students.
Availability during after-school hours [2 to 3 days per week] and occasional weekends.
Preferred
Experience with volunteer coordination or community programming.
Familiarity with Little Green Light, Mailchimp, or similar nonprofit tools.
Experience working in food access, youth programming, or neighborhood-based nonprofits.
Connection to or familiarity with the Argentine neighborhood.
Compensation and Benefits
Hourly rate: $20.00 to $22.00 per hour based on experience and demonstrated skills. The Hub Argentine is currently implementing an organization-wide compensation framework designed to ensure equitable and competitive pay across all positions. Compensation ranges may be reviewed periodically as this work is completed.
Non-exempt, eligible for overtime consistent with law.
Benefits summary: this position receives holiday pay and is eligible for paid time off.
How We Support Your Growth
Paid, employer-covered training, including Safe Gatherings certification.
Hands-on experience across the full range of nonprofit operations: food access, youth programming, communications, volunteer management, and donor records.
Regular check-ins with the Executive Director, with responsibilities, decision-making authority, and success measures reviewed in writing and adjusted as you grow into the role.
Why Join The Hub
At The Hub, operations work is community work. When the market opens on time, the paperwork is complete, and a neighbor's question is answered in their own language, that reliability is what trust is built on. In this role you will see the impact of your work every single week, in a market stocked for neighbors, in kids safely enjoying their after-school program, and in stories told in two languages.
You will join a small, collaborative team, with your responsibilities, decision-making authority, and success measures put in writing and reviewed with you, not handed to you. If you are organized, bilingual, and drawn to work where the details genuinely matter to real people, we encourage you to apply.
To Apply
Send a resume and a brief cover letter (or a note telling us about yourself and your fit for this position) to Carter Ellis at View email address on info.npconnect.org. Applications are reviewed on a rolling basis.
