Litigation Associate

Schubert Jonckheer & Kolbe LLP, a small plaintiffs-side litigation firm with over forty years of experience in complex litigation, is seeking an entry-level to mid-level associate to join its shareholder litigation team. Our practice is focused on shareholder derivative cases arising from corporate misconduct, securities fraud, insider trading, and breaches of fiduciary duty. The Role The position will include investigating potential shareholder claims, conducting factual and legal research, analyzing internal company documents, and preparing demands and complaints involving public companies and their officers and directors. Duties may include: Investigating potential shareholder claims using SEC filings, court filings, regulatory materials, news reports, and other public sources; Developing detailed factual chronologies and theories of corporate misconduct; Conducting legal research and assisting with motion practice; Reviewing and analyzing document productions and corporate records; Performing client intake; Assisting with discovery, case management, settlement and mediation preparation, and other litigation responsibilities; Working directly with the firm's partners on case strategy and development. The position is particularly well suited to an attorney who enjoys investigative work, mastering a factual record, and turning that work into a detailed and persuasive demand letter or complaint. What We Are Looking For Ideal candidates will have approximately 1–3 years of legal experience, although we will consider strong candidates outside that range. Relevant experience may come from a law firm, judicial clerkship, government agency, nonprofit, or other litigation setting. Excellent research, writing, and analytical skills are essential. We especially value candidates who are meticulous, intellectually curious, self-directed, and able to work through large amounts of information to identify the facts that matter. Strong academic credentials, law review experience, or a judicial clerkship are welcome. Because developing new cases is an important part of our practice, we also value lawyers who are curious about businesses and markets, think creatively about potential claims, and are interested in understanding how new shareholder cases are identified and developed. Location Our office is in San Francisco. We are open both to attorneys who wish to work from the San Francisco office and to California-based attorneys who prefer to work fully remotely. Compensation We offer a competitive salary of $130,000–$160,000, depending on experience, together with benefits.
