Iowa Sports Turf, a division of Musco Sports Lighting, has an opening for an Athletic Field Construction Operations Assistant out of our Des Moines office . This position supports the successful construction, installation, and renovation of high-quality athletic playing surfaces by performing skilled labor, operating and maintaining construction equipment, and completing work in accordance with project plans and specifications. Those in this role will work independently and collaboratively to complete projects safely, efficiently, and to established quality standards, helping the organization meet project commitments and deliver reliable results that satisfy customer needs.

Little League

Ideal Candidates for this Role will have:

• A high school diploma or equivalent. Degrees in Turf Management, Horticulture, Construction or related fields preferred.

• A valid Driver License (Required).

• Previous experience in construction, landscaping, agriculture, equipment operation, or a related environment.

• Experience operating tractors, skid steers or track loaders, mini excavators, trailers, or similar equipment.

• Experience reading basic construction plans, establishing layouts or elevations, or performing routine equipment maintenance.

• Ability to travel out of town regularly, including overnight and extended stays of up to 5 consecutive days

• Ability and willingness to work outdoors in varying weather and job-site conditions.

• Ability to work a schedule that may regularly range from 50 to 60 hours per week, based on seasonal and project needs. Overtime compensation will be provided in accordance with applicable federal and state law.

• Ability and willingness to complete employer-provided CDL training and obtain CDL in the offseason following hire.

• Ability to communicates clearly, follow verbal and written instructions, ask appropriate questions, and work cooperatively to support Team priorities.

• Ability to report to work prepared and as scheduled, follow through on responsibilities, and take ownership of work quality.

Essential Functions and Responsibilities:

• Load and unload equipment, materials, and supplies safely and efficiently to support job-site readiness and prevent damage or delays.

• Transport equipment and supplies to and from job sites in compliance with applicable safety requirements and company procedures.

• Operate tractors, track loaders, mini excavators, and other construction or maintenance equipment and attachments to complete assigned project work safely and accurately.

• Inspect, clean, and perform routine maintenance on equipment to promote safe operation, reliability, and availability for project needs.

• Establish project layouts, grades, and elevations in accordance with construction documents and specifications to support accurate installation.

• Follow required safety practices, company policies, and job-site regulations to protect employees, customers, equipment, and property.

• Perform outdoor physical labor, including lifting, carrying, digging, grading, and handling materials weighing 50 pounds or more to complete projects efficiently and meet quality expectations.
