Department Information The Department of Secondary and Middle Grades Educationhumanizes education with learner-centered teaching, scholarship andservice by building transformative, sustainable, and reciprocalpartnerships grounded in fairness and inclusion with teachers,families, schools, and communities. We prepare teachers at allcareer stages to meet students’ intellectual and social-emotionalneeds in developmentally appropriate ways. Our department isnationally recognized for work in Curriculum and Instruction;Middle Grades and Secondary Education at the undergraduate andgraduate levels. We have the largest doctoral enrollment inBagwell. Job Summary Kennesaw State University is now accepting applications for atwelve-month administrative faculty position as a tenured Professorand Chair of the Department of Secondary and Middle GradesEducation in the Clarice C. and Leland H. Bagwell College ofEducation with a preferred start date of July 1, 2027. Thisposition is for work to be performed in the state of Georgia. Responsibilities Strategic planning, including aligning the department’sstrategic plan with College and University strategic plans Supervising the operation of the Department Cultivating excellence in the department’s academic programsand promoting student success Providing inclusive and innovative leadership, includingsupporting shared governance Providing leadership for innovative research, educationalinitiatives, and accreditation Supporting, sustaining, and expanding the department’sscholarly excellence Advocating for the Department within the College andUniversity Administering the departmental budgets Reviewing curriculum proposals for departmentalfeasibility Collaborating with other campus units, especially those thatserve as EPPs Involvement in accreditation processes, including datacollection and reporting Overseeing recruitment and hiring efforts Managing workload and course scheduling Evaluating faculty and staff according to departmental andUniversity guidelines Presiding over Department meetings Representing the Department in College and Universityaffairs Representing the Department in external partnerships Performing such duties as assigned by the University or theDean of the College Providing regular reporting to the Dean regarding thedepartment Teaching assignments will be based on earned degrees and SACSCOCFaculty Credentials Guidelines. Required Qualifications A terminal degree, or the foreign equivalent, in Secondary orMiddle Grades Education, or a closely related field, with anacademic background and appropriate credentials to be a tenuredProfessor in one of the KSU departments that houses an EducationPreparation Program. Sustained record of demonstrating quality and significance inteaching, supervision and mentoring, research and creativeactivity, and professional service. Administrative or faculty leadership experience, including acommitment to shared governance and demonstrated effectiveness oforganizational, interpersonal, managerial, and communicationskills. A leadership style that builds trust, demonstrates excellentcommunication skills, welcomes input from faculty, staff, andstakeholders, and supports shared governance in highereducation. Experience teaching in a K-12 educational setting. Preferred Qualifications Experience as a department chair or equivalent leadership role,including strategic planning, managing budgets, and supervisingpersonnel. Expertise in building and maintaining collaborativerelationships and in sustaining effective communities of practiceamong all faculty. Experience in leading student success initiatives. Experience with successful graduate and undergraduate programdevelopment, assessment, and recruitment. Experience with assessment and re‑accreditation processes. Experience securing grant funding and/or supporting faculty andstudent research initiatives and grants.Experience in using evidence‑based research and best practicesto design innovative solutions for enduring challenges in teacherpreparation. Record of effective teaching of graduate and undergraduatecourses in multiple modalities.Record of creating and sustaining reciprocal school andcommunity partnerships.A record of involvement and leadership in professionalorganizations at the state, regional, and national/internationallevels.
