Student Assistant - Information Technology

Job Description The California Department of Transportation (Caltrans) is seeking to hire a student assistant, in a learning capacity, to work under the general supervision of the Enterprise Data Warehouse (EDW) staff and/or the Information Technology Manager I. The student assistant will assist the team to ensure the EDW priorities are met by assisting in the implementation and support of Information Technology policies, standards, and services. Responsibilities In a learning capacity, the student assistant will assist with the daily operations of the Caltrans Enterprise Data Warehouse (EDW) program, including business program processes analysis, data analysis, and interacting with departmental staff. In a learning capacity, the student assistant will assist in validating EDW user interface. In a learning capacity, the student assistant will be reviewing program processes and procedures documentation for accuracy and completeness. In a learning capacity, the student assistant will assist with other related duties as necessary. Minimum Qualifications Must maintain a minimum cumulative 2.0 GPA. Must complete each term with minimum unit requirements for Undergraduate and Graduate student classifications. Proof will be collected at the end of each Spring and Fall term. Ability and willingness to work in a learning capacity supporting data analysis and business process review activities. Interest in supporting program operations, including analysis of business processes and interaction with departmental staff. Ability to assist in validating user interfaces for accuracy and functionality. Ability to review program processes and procedural documentation for accuracy and completeness. Ability to support general program-related tasks and other duties as assigned in a learning capacity. Preferred Qualifications Under the amendment to Government Code Section 18220, state agencies shall give preference to a qualified applicant (up to 26 years of age) who is, or has been, a dependent child in foster care, a homeless youth, a formerly incarcerated youth, or a victim of human trafficking. Compensation $18.28-$28.16 per hour. Work Schedule Flexible workdays and work hours, Monday – Friday, between 8 AM – 5 PM. Student Assistant and Graduate Assistant employees generally work up to 24 hours per workweek (Sunday – Saturday) during the academic year and up to 40 hours per workweek during breaks (winter, spring, and summer). Final work schedule will be determined by the supervisor. Physical Requirements Sit for extended periods; frequently stand and walk; manual dexterity and hand-eye coordination; corrected hearing and vision to normal range; verbal communication; use of office equipment including computer workstations, telephones, calculators, copiers, printers, and scanners with or without reasonable accommodation.
