Senior Systems Engineer

About The Role Innovative Defense Technologies (IDT) is seeking a Senior Systems Engineer to be part of our team and based out of our Mount Laurel, NJ location. Lead the development of AWS-centric, real-time architectures and advanced combat system models. In this role, you will be instrumental in the ongoing rearchitecting of our mission‑critical systems while actively mentoring and supporting junior engineering staff in a highly collaborative environment. Clearance & Location Requirements All applicants must be able to obtain/maintain an active Secret U.S. Security Clearance. This is an on‑site position. Requiring at least 5 days in office, based out of our Mount Laurel, NJ location. What You Will Do System Stress Testing & Modeling: Execute complex system stress tests and utilize MATLAB to model and evaluate weapons systems. Performance Analysis: Calculate, analyze, and evaluate probabilistic combat system performance measures (such as PK, PES, PSI, and CK), particularly for live fire and Aegis‑related scenarios. Real‑Time Architecture Evaluation: Navigate, test, and validate within a real‑time, event‑based architecture that utilizes DDS RTI (Data Distribution Service Real‑Time Innovations) and UDP communications (e.g., Sigpro SPY). Software Certification: Ensure software meets rigorous certification standards and validation processes. Architecture Evolution: Participate in the ongoing testing and rearchitecting of the system as the program evolves. Mentorship: (For mid‑to‑senior roles) Provide guidance, support, and domain knowledge transfer to junior engineering staff. Who You Are Required Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Systems Engineering, Industrial Engineering, Physics, or Mathematics, or equivalent full‑time professional experience. 7+ years of full‑time professional experience in System Engineering, or related technical roles. Ability to travel up to 10% of the time, as needed. Proven leadership ability with a strong track record of mentoring and guiding junior engineers. Advanced software development expertise in C++ and Java within an AWS‑centric environment. Deep understanding of real‑time processing and event‑based architectures, specifically utilizing DDS RTI and UDP communications (e.g., Sigpro SPY). Extensive systems engineering experience with MATLAB weapons models. Knowledge of probabilistic combat system performance measures (PK, PES, PSI, and CK). Familiarity with software certification principles and the use of AI agents for recompiling tasks. What Makes You Stand Out Aegis Domain Knowledge: Prior experience with the Aegis combat system is highly desired, especially for mid‑to‑senior candidates to support the team, though training will be provided for the right candidate. Hands‑on experience developing and deploying software in AWS‑centric environments. Pay Range* $135,000 – $231,000 or $164,000 – $273,000 *Pursuant to New Jersey Senate Bill 2310 IDT is required to disclose the "pay scale" or "pay range" associated with a job posting.
