HIGH VOLTAGE ELECTRICIAN LEADER

Summary

You will serve as a HIGH VOLTAGE ELECTRICIAN LEADER in the PUBLIC WORKS DIVISION of NAVFAC SOUTHWEST.

This position is being recruited for the Naval Facilities Engineering Systems Command (NAVFAC) and may subsequently be realigned under the Commander, Navy Installations Command (CNIC).

Help

• You will lead crews in troubleshooting cable systems to locate shorts, electrolysis damage, capacitance imbalance or cable breaks.
• You will lead a team as a High Voltage Electrician completing high voltage electrical inspections, repairs, and maintenance activities.
• You will use tools (climbing gear, belt and harness to operate, test and repair high voltage overhead lines, cross arms, transformers, switches and structures).
• You will maintain proper work methods, explain steps and or processes to ensure the safety of crew members and safe operations of the equipment.

• You will be required to wear personal protective equipment such as helmets, gloves, coveralls, glasses, goggles, respirators and safety shoes continuously for the duration of the work shift.
• This position may require travel from normal duty station to CONUS and OCONUS and may include remote or isolated sites. You must be able to travel on military and commercial aircraft for extended periods of time.

This job has a screen-out element which will be used to determine minimum eligibility for this job. Applicants who do not receive a minimum of two points on the screen-out element(s) will be found ineligible. The Screen-out Element for this position is: ABILITY TO LEAD OR SUPERVISE : 1) Repairing high voltage power generating and distributing equipment (e.g. generators, transformers, switches, circuit breakers, recording instruments, and control systems); 2) Reading circuit drawings and diagrams to identify electrical problems; 3) Using high voltage test tools (e.g. oscillators, primary and secondary injection tester, Power Factor and Relay calibration equipment, meggers, phase sticks, and fault finding equipment); 4) Installing transformers, capacitors, insulators, switches, circuit breakers and fuses for main distribution lines over 600V; and 5) Using safety equipment such as hot sticks, rubber blankets, and insulated gloves when working on high voltage systems.

This position is subject to work an uncommon tour, including nights, weekends, and holidays to meet mission requirements. Overtime or night differential pay and/or unusual duty hours may be required.
