Phlebotomist

Job Summary:


The Phlebotomist is responsible for performing blood draws and specimen collection in an acute care hospital setting. This role requires interaction with patients and healthcare staff, maintaining accurate documentation, and flexibility to float between multiple hospital locations. The position demands a minimum of 2 years of phlebotomy experience, preferably including travel and trauma center exposure, and active certification and licensure in California.

Responsibilities:

• Perform blood draws and specimen collection accurately and safely.
• Interact professionally with patients and healthcare staff to facilitate specimen collection.
• Maintain precise and timely documentation using EPIC and handheld Rover devices.
• Float between Mission Viejo and Laguna Beach hospital locations as required.
• Participate in weekend shifts and on-call rotations as scheduled.

Required Skills & Certifications:

• Minimum of 2 years phlebotomy experience; travel and trauma center experience highly preferred.
• Current CPT or CPT 1 certification.
• Active California State Phlebotomy License.
• Experience with EPIC charting system preferred.
• Ability to use handheld electronic devices for documentation (e.g., Rover).

Preferred Skills & Certifications:

• Experience working in acute care hospital environments.
• Familiarity with trauma center protocols and procedures.
• Experience working in multiple hospital locations or floating roles.

Special Considerations:

• Must work weekends, at least every other weekend, with likely more frequent weekend shifts.
• Participation in on-call rotations is required.
• Must submit all time-off (RTO) requests during application; no accommodation for outside employment scheduling requests.
• Pending licenses are not accepted; active California license required.
• Local candidates within 50 miles preferred for local rate consideration.
• Work environment includes a 488-bed acute care hospital.
• RN scrubs color code: Royal blue.
• Free parking available.

Scheduling:

• Work locations include Mission Viejo and Laguna Beach hospitals with float assignments as needed.
• Block scheduling determined at manager's discretion.
• Guaranteed hours with the possibility of one call-off per two-week pay period.
• No flexibility for outside employment scheduling requests.
