Role Description The Automotive Service Writer at Freeman Motor Company is a full-time, on-site role based in Salem, OR. This role is responsible for serving as the primary point of contact between customers and the service department, creating repair orders, explaining recommended services, and setting clear expectations for timing and costs. Day-to-day tasks include greeting customers in person and by phone, scheduling service appointments, accurately documenting vehicle concerns, and coordinating with technicians to ensure efficient workflows. The Service Writer also reviews inspection results, communicates updates and approvals to customers, prepares invoices, and ensures a smooth, transparent service experience from drop-off to pick-up. This position supports a high level of customer satisfaction by maintaining detailed records, using dealership software, and promoting recommended maintenance in line with company standards. Qualifications Candidates should possess strong Customer Service and Customer Satisfaction skills, with a focus on building trust and long-term relationships. Candidates should possess effective Communication and Phone Etiquette skills for clear, professional interactions with customers and team members. Candidates should possess solid Computer Literacy skills, including comfort with service management software, email, and basic office applications. Experience in automotive service writing, dealership or repair shop operations, or a related customer-facing automotive role is beneficial. Knowledge of basic automotive systems and maintenance schedules, with the ability to explain technical information in everyday language, is preferred. Strong organizational abilities, attention to detail, and the capacity to manage multiple work orders and priorities simultaneously are important. High school diploma or equivalent required; additional technical or automotive coursework or certifications are a plus.
