Description**JOB SUMMARY:** Uses trucks, equipment and hand tools to perform maintenance, repair and cleaning of asphalt and concrete streets and storm drainage systems, snow and ice clearance, pest control, and traffic device placement.**ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:*** Operates truck, milling machine, jackhammer, power saw and hand tools to remove, load and repair deteriorated asphalt and concrete pavement surfaces.* Operates truck, asphalt distributor, joint routing and cleaning machines, and hand tools, to clean and seal pavement joints and cracks.* Operates truck and hand tools to haul and load bricks, mortar and mix mortar and lay bricks for repair or rebuilding of stormwater catch basins.* Operates backhoe, truck, loader, and hand tools, to excavate and replace, or repair storm drain pipelines.* Operates truck and hand tools to haul and spread dirt and seed along street curbs and sidewalks and in sinkholes over storm drain pipelines, and to restore damaged lawn turf.* Operates truck, snowplow and loader to load and distribute salt for ice treatment and to plow snow from public streets during an average 12-hour shift.* Operates paint striper and truck to apply crosswalk lanes and stop bars on street surfaces.* Operates truck and hand tools to install traffic control signs and street name signs.* Operates vacuum press and hand tools to design and fabricate signs.* Operates truck and grinding machine to level grade differences on sidewalks.* Operates truck, vacuum machine and hand tools to rake, and operate vacuum hose to collect and transport leaves for a 6-8 week period each fall.* Operates pressure washer and hand held cleaning and lubricating tools to clean and lubricate trucks, tractors and small equipment.* Operates truck, jackhammer, sledgehammer, and earthwork and masonry hand tools to remove and pour concrete sidewalks.* Operates vacuum sweeper to clean dirt and debris from street surfaces.* Operates truck and jet router with 2" hose to clear debris from storm drain basins and pipelines.* Functions temporarily as crew leader with full authority and responsibility for work safety, productivity and quality standards when no higher-ranking supervisor is present.**MARGINAL JOB FUNCTIONS:*** Operates chain saws and hand tools to clear fallen trees and brush from open waterways and drainage structures.* Operates hand held radio and flagging signs to direct traffic around work tasks on traffic lanes.* Operates loader and truck to transport debris from storage yard to commercial landfill.* Operates hand tools to clean, repair and place traffic cones, barricades and work zone control signs.* Operates truck and hand tools to replace traffic signal lamps.* Uses hand held cleaning tools and cleaning materials to clean and sanitize toilet, lunch facility, and workshop and storage areas.* Operates loader, truck and hand tools to clean and organize storage yard and parking areas.* Operates truck and hand tools to transport and install stone, concrete and timber materials for retaining walls and riprap on waterways and street rights-of-way.* Operates truck, roller creeper and hand tools to grout large diameter storm drainage pipe interior joints.* Operates truck and pesticide fogger to distribute insect control spray.* Operates truck and uses hand procedures to distribute insect control spray.* Operates truck and uses hand procedures to distribute insect control briquettes.* Uses hand tools and procedures to adjust, sharpen and service chain saws, hand tools and specialized small equipment.* Operates truck and hand tools to remove and dispose of dead animals on street rights-of-way.* Performs weekly readiness review checklist on trucks, tractors and emergency equipment.**KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES REQUIRED:*** Ability to understand, remember and follow complex task instructions and work safety rules without direct work task supervision.* Ability to safely and efficiently operate trucks, tractors, and specialized small engine powered equipment for hauling, digging, grinding, milling, cleaning and breaking asphalt and concrete pavement surfaces and storm drain pipelines.* Ability to safely and effectively use hammers, chipping bars shovels, picks, wheelbarrows and other hand tools and hand operated equipment for digging cutting, breaking and placement of earth, asphalt, concrete and aggregate materials.* Ability to lift, pull, push or haul broken concrete, stone, lumber loose aggregate materials, bag mixes, paint, liquid and bulk asphalt sealant and hand held or walk-behind saws, blowers, chipping hammers, pavement millers and grinders on uneven ground and in excavations.* Ability to tolerate physical labor for extended periods and in all weather conditions occurring throughout the year.* Ability to respond to short notice call-up, 24-hours a day, seven days a week, for snow and ice treatment operations or other emergency operations, and to work for extended overtime periods.* Participate in a monthly random drug test per DOT guidelines, and as established in section 2.10 of the Personnel Manual. Failure to comply will result in immediate termination.**EQUIPMENT USED TO PERFORM THE JOB:*** Hand and power tools as mentioned above.
