Job Description PURPOSE AND SCOPE: The Environmental Health & Life Safety (EHLS) Officer isresponsible for inspecting, evaluating, and monitoring equipment,processes, and campus environments to ensure a safe and healthyenvironment for students, faculty, staff, and visitors to Lone StarCollege. This position will work closely with campus faculty,staff, and administration to implement LSC's environmental healthand life safety programs to ensure compliance with applicablepolicies, codes, and regulations. In collaboration with the othermembers of the EHLS department and College-wide departments, theEHLS Officer will work to create and enhance a robust safetyculture by providing technical support, consultation, awareness,and training to reduce risk and prevent hazards and injury to theLSC community. ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS: Conduct and document visual inspections of learning and workenvironments for potential fire hazards Conduct and document routine visual inspections onenvironmental health, fire and life safety systems, equipment, anddevices Facilitates and secures documentation from contractors ofrequired fire safety code inspections in accordance with applicableregulatory requirements Plan and conduct fire and tornado drills. Document drillresults and required follow-up actions, reporting all findings toappropriate personnel Support the Office of Emergency Management and LSC PoliceDepartment in facilitation and documentation of other requireddrills and exercises Records and maintains testing results, work orderdocumentation, and repairs to include preventive and correctivemaintenance on fire protection equipment systems Monitor and document the completion of corrective action toaddress identified safety deficiencies Assists the EHLS Managers and Director to develop and deliverenvironmental health and life safety educational awareness andtraining programs Participate in conducting and documenting safety audits toensure compliance with applicable regulations and mitigatepotential risks Oversee the placement and setup of environmental health andlife safety signage and equipment Escort contractors and Fire Marshal representatives through LSCbuildings in order to maintain and/or inspect equipment Maintain accurate detailed records and ensure timelycommunication of all fire system related matters to EHLSmanagement Assist the EHLS Managers and Director with collecting anddocumenting information regarding incidents to identify and supportin resolving any issue that may relate to unsafe environmentalconditions and/or practices Responsible for other reasonable, related duties asassigned KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES: Working knowledge of environmental safety compliance and firesystems Excellent decision-making skills Ability to think and act quickly Ability to exercise self-restraint and maintain composure underpressure or adverse conditions Ability to operate with limited supervision and maintainefficient, self-directed job functions Excellent written and verbal communication skills Excellent attention to detail and organizational skills Ability to maintain confidentiality of sensitiveinformation PHYSICAL ABILITIES: The work requires considerable and strenuous physical exertion,such as frequent climbing of tall ladders, lifting heavy objectsover fifty pounds, crouching, or crawling in restricted areas, longperiods of standing, and considerable amounts of walking. WORK SCHEDULE AND CONDITIONS: Equipment used includes, PC workstation running on a LAN in aMicrosoft Windows environment, phone, and other general officeequipment Interface with internal and external contacts to fulfillessential job functions May be assigned to any or various LSC campuses May work around chemical fumes, hazardous substances,electrical and mechanical hazards, noise, allergens, and dust May be required to wear personal protective equipment and anLSC shirt (furnished) May be required to work occasional evenings and weekends Able to provide occasional on-call support on a rotationalbasis REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS: High school diploma or GED and at least 4 years of experience,or an equivalent combination of education and experience PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS: Associate degree in a technical field At least 4 years of experience with full life cycleinstallation, repair, maintenance, and operations of various fire,life, and safety devices American Red Cross First Aid, CPR, AED Certified Community Emergency Response Team (C.E.R.T) Certified Industry and safety certifications such as the National FireProtection Association (NFPA) or Occupational Safety and HealthAdministration (OSHA) Salary Hiring salary range is $48,152 to $55,375 Lone Star College provides a hiring salary range for all postedfull-time non-faculty positions. Where your salary offer would fallin that range is determined by your related experience andeducation.
