JOB SUMMARY

Provide safe, accurate, timely, and high-quality installation of commercial HVAC materials, equipment, and systems based on project design documents (including plans and specifications), using standard industry practices, codes, and S&D processes. May train apprentices and summer helpers.

• Reporting Line: Reports to HVAC Supervisor / Foreman / Superintendent.

REQUIREMENTS

• Experience: Minimum of 5 years of hands-on experience in the commercial HVAC trade ( PREFERRED: Current HVAC journeyman’s license).
• Technical Training: HVAC training and basic manufacturer training, with an understanding of techniques used for heating, ventilation, and air conditioning service and installation.
• System Competency: Competent at installing refrigeration systems, air distribution systems, and equipment controls (including fundamentals of electrical wiring).
• Problem Solving: Able to analyze situations/issues and provide effective solutions.
• Education: High school diploma (relevant experience may be substituted for education).
• Mathematics: Intermediate arithmetic skills up to basic algebra.
• Schedule & Availability: Able to work mornings, afternoons, evenings, and weekends as needed. Hours may involve start times as early as 5:00 a.m. and may require afternoon/night shifts.
• Communication: Communicate effectively in English (aural, verbal, and written).
• Interpersonal Skills: Able to effectively manage conflict with clients, co-workers, and subordinates.
• Licensing & Driving: Safely operate a motor vehicle to travel among job sites. Must hold a valid driver’s license (not under suspension or limitation) and be insurable to operate motor vehicles.
• Physical Demands:
• • Must be able to stand, crouch, walk, bend, crawl, twist, push, pull, carry, climb (stairs & ladders), and grip tools (fine motor coordination).
  • Must be able to lift up to seventy-five (75) pounds, with or without assistance.
• Working Conditions:
• • Able to withstand temperature extremes and exposure to weather elements (rain, snow, etc.).
  • Able to withstand exposure to dust, fumes, heights, and confined spaces.
• Physical Abilities: Possess skills related to balance, agility, color differentiation, hearing, eye-hand coordination, flexibility, depth perception, peripheral vision, and manual dexterity.

JOB DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

• Mechanical Systems:
• • Strong working knowledge of refrigerant piping installation and equipment startup.
  • Working knowledge of HVAC controls and electrical wiring.
  • Read and understand plans and specifications, including coordinated drawings.
• Application of Arithmetic & Algebraic Principles:
• • Add, subtract, multiply, and divide whole numbers, fractions, and decimals with or without a calculator.
  • Properly use standard rulers, metric rulers, and measuring tapes to take accurate measurements.
  • Solve algebraic equations to determine voltage, amperage, resistance, and power.
• Installation of Mechanical Systems to Maximize Efficiency:
• • Install and start up equipment, meet project deadlines, and perform basic troubleshooting.
  • Complete startup checklists, pre-functional checklists, system readiness checklists, etc.
  • Create daily job reports. When acting as a foreman, enter crew time into Field Man.
• Process Compliance & Production:
• • Create material lists directly from drawings.
  • Make operational decisions to effectively complete jobs on time, according to specifications/plans/codes, and in a LEAN manner.
  • Ensure deliveries, materials, tools, and equipment are available and properly staged for maximum efficiency according to LEAN practices.
  • Monitor progress of subcontractors, temporary labor, and crew to ensure work is completed in a timely, productive, accurate, and safe manner according to policy, procedures, codes, and standard work techniques.
