Associate Systems Administrator

General Purpose As an experienced Associate Systems Administrator, this position will be responsible for administering, monitoring and supporting the hardware platforms, operating systems, and related products and technologies to improve distribution center operations. The role involves participation in support and integration activities for Ross's distribution and transportation systems, ensuring high standards for system uptime and availability, and establishing documentation, standards, best practices, procedures, processes and guidelines. Essential Functions Design, install, maintain, configure, secure, and support hardware platforms, operating systems, wired/wireless network components, and related products and technologies. Develop and deliver timely solutions to problems to enable the IT organization to move forward quickly while ensuring high quality workmanship during all phases of delivery. Plan and execute performance baselines, monitoring, tuning, and capacity planning, including diagnosing and resolving performance issues. Take on new roles and responsibilities as assigned or as business needs require. Provide appropriate documentation and knowledge transfer to all individuals or organizations that are supported. Perform hardware/software configuration and release management. Utilize productivity tools to proactively manage workload – time, project, and priority management. Utilize SDLC processes to develop, present and track project activity, including presentations to technical and management associates. Develop and deliver timely solutions to problems to enable the IT organization to move forward quickly, while ensuring high quality workmanship during all phases of delivery. Demonstrate detailed understanding and ability to design structured cabling systems used in the DC – CAT5, Cat 6/6E, single and multi‑mode fiber optics, IDF/MDFs, switches, and cross‑connection methodologies. Comprehensive understanding and ability to troubleshoot hardware/software issues on WCS platforms such as Dematic conveyance, Integrated/Crisplant Tilt Tray, GOH, PTL/PTV, Ticketing. Comprehensive understanding and ability to troubleshoot hardware/software on RF devices, ticketing systems, label platforms, time keeping, backup environments and voice systems. Qualifications and Special Skills Required At least 2-4 years of experience supporting retail systems, including at least one year in a complex heterogeneous computing environment supporting supply chain distribution systems. Solid understanding of retail dynamics within a complex, highly integrated environment. Solid understanding of supply chain technology and warehouse control systems within a complex, highly integrated environment. Experience with Distribution Center / Warehouse Management Systems. Technical competence with networking topologies and wireless computing infrastructure; maintaining network systems and services including servers, routers, switches, firewalls, VPN, VoIP, and other IP devices. Experience with UNIX and Windows operating systems; internet/intranet technologies; data center design/optimization and environmental support components. Preferred Qualifications 2+ years of experience with backup technologies, high‑end storage solutions (Hitachi SAN preferable), SCCM System Management and Event Management tool or related technology. Experience with installation, maintenance, security, performance monitoring, performance tuning, and operating system integrity. Experience with IT processes such as system management, patch management, change management, configuration management, release management, problem management, business continuity planning, customer service and vendor relationship management. Experience defining and delivering effective methodologies and processes to enable a proactive work environment and deliver structured, repeatable work for Tier 1 support individuals or organizations. Strong analytical, problem solving, root cause analysis and troubleshooting skills. Undergraduate degree or equivalent work experience. Physical Requirements / ADA Job requires ability to work in an office environment, primarily on a computer. Requires sitting, standing, walking, hearing, talking on the telephone, attending in‑person meetings, typing, and working with paper/files. Requires consistent timeliness and regular attendance. Requires the ability to see information in print and/or electronically. Requires frequent walking throughout distribution centers (approx. 2 million square feet) to observe and support users. Requires ability to ascend/descend stairs, frequent standing and walking for lengthy periods of time, ability to hear/communicate in a noisy environment. Occasionally requires bending, kneeling, reaching, and lifting boxes up to 50 pounds.
