Team Leader Dietary

SUMMARY Under the supervision of the Department Manager, provides direction for patient meal services at patient care units to ensure patient satisfaction and safety. Responsible for coordination of patient meal service including menu selections, tray assembly, tray delivery and pick up, special requests and needs for ‘Expressly for You’ Dining Service. Directs the preparation of cafeteria “grab and go” items, assists with special functions, and performs other related duties as required. RESPONSIBILITIES Demonstrates understanding of the hospital’s and Brown University Health’s mission, vision, and values. Demonstrates understanding of the job description, performance expectations, and competency assessment plan. Demonstrates a commitment toward meeting and exceeding the needs of customers and consistently adheres to customer service standards. Complies with department and hospital policies and procedures. Reviews department and hospital policies and procedures. Participates in departmental and/or interdepartmental quality improvement activities. Completes mandatory education—hospital-wide, department-specific, and job-specific. Evaluates patient meal selection, tray completion, tray delivery, and tray retrieval process—including late trays—on a daily basis. Assigns, leads, and monitors the work of Dietary Aides and Hospitality Service Representatives in the assembly of patient trays for children, adults, and geriatrics. Demonstrates a working knowledge of food service sanitation, infection control principles, and uses accepted techniques in food preparation, handling, and service. Responsive to patients’ needs at all times. Resolves patient concerns or complaints immediately and/or reports needed assistance to the manager or supervisor. Works with the Registered Dietitian, Chef, or Manager to ensure alternatives to the menu are provided according to prescribed diets, food allergies, sensitivities, and cultural, ethnic, and religious preferences. Performs any or all duties of Dietary Aides and/or Hospitality Service Representatives as workload or staffing demands require—including patient tray service, preparation of nutritional supplements and enteral feedings, cafeteria service, cafeteria cashier duties, and kitchen, cafeteria, and unit kitchen cleaning. Continually monitors employee activities and performance and reports to the Food Service Manager. Recommends procedural improvements to the Food Service Manager when needed. Trains Dietary Aides and Hospitality Service Representatives in proper methods, techniques, policies, procedures, and safe working practices. Evaluates patient meal selection, tray completion, and tray delivery and retrieval processes daily using tray audits, test trays, a taste panel with the chefs, and meal rounds on inpatient units. Performs other related duties as required. MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS High school education or equivalent desired. Ability to read, understand arithmetic, and measures to report fluid intake and prepare enteral feedings. Minimum of six months comparable food services experience, preferably in a health care or institutional setting. PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS Must be able to stand and walk 3–7 hours per day; squat, bend, or twist 1–3 hours per day; and lift 10–35 lbs with good body mechanics. Must be able to use both hands and wrists with moderate deviation/repetitions and perform work with gross dexterity and infrequent fine motor skills. Near/far vision must be accurate at 20/40, have moderate depth perception, and be able to discriminate between red/green and blue-violet.

PAY RANGE $18.00 – $27.13
