Job Title: Radiologic Technologist

License: Graduate of an accredited Radiologic Technology program or meets requirements for registry by the American Registry of Radiologic Technologists or is attending a second year in an accredited Radiology program.
Certifications: CPR certification

Description:
The Radiographer conducts and assists personnel in the performance of radiologic examinations.
The position provides patient care activities for adult, pediatric, and neonatal patients.
The technologist is responsible for the proper utilization of the Radiology Information System.
Participation in and implementation of age-specific care and interaction is expected.
Preparation of the room and equipment for radiologic examinations is required.
A good knowledge base of department procedure protocols and physician requirements is essential.
Ability to set up sterile trays according to physician protocol is necessary.
Proper patient identification through two forms of ID is mandatory.
Adherence to HIPAA rules and regulations is required to keep patient information confidential.
Preparing and positioning patients for radiologic examinations according to established procedures is a key responsibility.
The technologist is required to explain the procedure to patients and reassure them to alleviate fears.
Operates radiologic equipment as necessary for the completion of examinations.
Demonstrates knowledge of proper technique and equipment functions to optimize quality of exams.
Prepares opaque media for special examinations when necessary.
Completes consent forms for intravenous contrast agents, and discusses patient's diagnosis with the Radiologist.
Analyzes the patient's condition following the administration of media.
Completes radiographic procedures on various patient divisions and in surgical settings.
Utilizes and transports portable machines or C-arm equipment to various patient floors as needed.
Assists Radiologists or surgeons in preparing for fluoroscopic and other special examinations.
Responsibilities also include administering contrast media as directed by medical personnel.
Anticipates and meets patient needs while establishing rapport with patients and families.
Explains procedures to patients and families to gain confidence.
Monitors patients' conditions before, during, and after the procedure, including taking vital signs.
Transports patients to and from the Radiology department, ensuring all patient care items are managed properly.
Practices proper radiation protection methods at all times.
Responsible for demonstrating proficiency in the operation of diagnostic and fluoroscopic equipment.
Troubleshoots x-ray equipment and reports malfunctions to maintenance personnel.
Teaches and oversees student technologists, ensuring patient care and radiation protection practices.
Maintains good and current knowledge of departmental policies and procedures through continuing education.
Communicates in a positive manner with all hospital staff, physicians, and patients.
Willingness to respond to emergencies and follow hospital procedures for life-threatening conditions.
Must be able to endure stressful situations and exposure to hazardous conditions.
The role requires physical strength, including lifting patients and operating heavy machinery.
Proficiency in using computer systems for record-keeping and image management is essential.
Regularly completes required continuing education to maintain certifications and skills.
Fosters a collaborative environment with all healthcare staff to ensure optimal patient care.
