COMPETENCY AREAS
Under the direct supervision of the Medical Director, Hospital CEO/Supervisors and the EMS Director, the employee will operate under the written protocols and job descriptions according to certification. Each employee will be in good standings with Texas Department of Health State Services, have a clear background, pass a drug screen and have a current CPR card.DESCRIPTION OF TASKS INSIDE THE HOSPITAL
EMS personnel will work as an ER Technician assisting Nurses, Doctors, Phlebotomist, and Radiologist with patient care: including but not limited to Starting IV's, blood draw, splints, suture removal, sterile field, taking vital signs, EKG's, CPR. DESCRIPTION OF TASKS WHILE ON AN INTRAFACILITY TRANSFER Determines nature and extent of illness or injury, vital signs, completes head to toe exam, makes determination regarding patient status, establishes priority for emergency care, renders appropriate care based on competency level, continues any care already started in the ER. Assists in lifting, carrying and transporting patients to the ambulance and during transport to receiving facility. Observes patient during transport, administers care as directed by sending physician or established protocols. Reports verbally and in writing observations or changes during transport to receiving facility. Replaces supplies and checks all equipment for future readiness, maintains ambulances in operable condition, ensures ambulance cleanliness and orderliness of supplies, decontamin interior of ambulance, performs daily checks on unit. DESCRIPTION OF TASKS OUTSIDE OF THE HOSPITAL (IN CASE OF EMERGENCY/911 COVERAGE) Receives call from dispatcher, responds verbally to emergency calls, reads maps, uses most expeditious route and observes traffic ordinances and regulations. Determines nature and extent of illness or injury, vital signs, completes head to toe exam, makes determination regarding patient status, establishes priority for emergency care, renders appropriate care based on comptency level. Assists in lifting, carrying and transporting patients to the ambulance and during transport to receiving facility. Observes patient during transport, administers care as directed by sending physician or established protocols. Reports verbally and in writing observations or changes during transport to receiving facility. Replaces supplies and checks all equipment for future readiness, maintains ambulances in operable condition, ensures ambuland cleanliness and orderliness of supplies, decontaminates interior of ambulance, performs daily checks on unit.EMS CERTIFICATION TESTING POLICY
Essential Function Test A candidate must complete an Essential Function Test as provided. Protocol Testing A candidate must achieve a passing score on the written protocol test Competency Testing Competency testing will be performed on a yearly basis. RequirementsQUALIFICATIONS:
Must be at least 18 years of age, HS diploma or equivalent, and a valid driver's license. Ability to communication verbally, via telephone, radio equipment etc., ability to lift and carry up to 125 pounds (250 with assistance), ability to interpret written, oral, and diagnostic forms of instructions, ability to use good judgement and remain calm in high stress situations, the ability to be unaffected by loud noises, flashing lights, ability to read small print under both life threatening and time constraints, ability to read English language manuals and road maps. The ability to perform all tasks related to the highest quality of patient care. Ability to bend, stoop, crawl on uneven spaces, the ability to withstand varied environmental conditions such as extreme, heat, cold, and moisture. Ability to work in low light and confined spaces. Must have knowledge of medical procedures, terminology and medications, working knowledge of medical equipment and devices. ICs certifications thru FEMA 100, 200, 700, 800 and Jurisprudence.CERTIFICATIONS
EMT - EMERGENCY MEDICAL TECHNICIAN
Understands basic medical-legal principles Functions within the scope of care as defined by the State, regional, and local regulatory agencies Must have current EMT certification Keep current on CE hours to maintain certificationAMET - ADVANCED EMERGENCY MEDICAL TECHNICIAN
Must have current AEMT certification Keep current on CE hours to maintain certification Understands Basic and Advanced medical legal principles Functions within the scope of care as defined by the State, regional and local regulatory agencies CPR and ACLS certificationEMT-P - PARAMEDIC
