The OR Surgical Specialist is a Registered Nurse and a member of the care delivery team. OR Surgical Specialist is responsible for Operating Room responsibilities as detailed herein. OR Surgical Specialist works on complex surgical procedures in the Operating Room. OR Surgical Specialist establishes and maintains collaborative relationships with physicians, other health care providers, patients and their families, to achieve desired patient outcomes throughout the continuum of care. Responsibilities: Utilization of preference cards, knowledge, and experience to know procedures and surgeon preferences to anticipate the needs of the patient and surgical team (in the scrub role and circulator role) Help with lunches when not in staffing Resource procurement/allocation Utilize specialty knowledge/expertise to facilitate communication/collaboration between staff, surgeons, and service line clinicians (e.g., preference card updates, checking case carts, etc.) Performs scrub role (requirement for RNs hired on or after July 1, 2023). Belongs to at least one department or hospital committee. Demonstrates knowledge of department fiscal requirements. Participates in decision-making activities related to evaluating and acquiring surgical equipment, instruments, and supplies. Collaborates with other health care professionals in the development of surgical budgetary requirements.
